Verizon Line Cutter On The Loose

from the snip-snip-snip dept

Broadband Reports notes that there's someone on the loose cutting service lines to customers. Each cut is killing service to hundreds of customers. Apparently, the cutting is being done with a power saw -- so whoever is doing it apparently has been able to access these lines with a power saw without raising the slightest suspicion. As you might imagine, though, the local press isn't refraining from idle speculation about who might be doing this ("Officials yesterday couldn't say whether the vandalism... is a form of domestic terrorism or is being done by a telecommunications professional.") It still sounds like a disgruntled former or current employee who is likely to get caught.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    I just love local

    "Service for all 80 to 100 customers. . . "

Which is it? 80 or 100? You can't claim "All" if you don't know the number of customers. ;)

    Terrorist?

Even if it turns out to be a disgruntled former employee, they'll probably charge him with terrorism under the Patriot Act. Maybe throw in a RICO charge or two.
