SonyEricsson Sales Up 56% Over Last Year

Put your fears to rest about the viability of SonyEricsson. After a shaky start to the partnership, and the rumored wavering of the Japanese contingent after some tough early financial results, SE is hitting its stride, and making a dent in the world cellphone markets. SonyEricsson seems to be making gains in the 3G device sector, and analysts at Ovum say they should focus on the smartphone sector going forward. The linked Wireless Week article makes a good roundup of the financial results: "Fourth-quarter profit was up 28 percent year-over-year at Sony Ericsson. The company shipped 12.6 million units during the quarter, up 56 percent compared to a year ago...net profit was up year-over-year to $71.8 million. Quarterly sales were up from $1.88 billion to $2.62 billion. The company recorded a 58 percent up-take in mobile phone unit sales, which reached 12.6 million during the quarter."

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
