Shocker: A Reasonable Article On WiFi Security

from the finally! dept

Earlier this week, we had a link to an article that completely blew out of proportion the security threats from using open WiFi. This morning, News.com had another article making it sound like open WiFi networks were the root cause of all evil on the internet. So, with all of that, it's good to see an article that takes a much more realistic and sane view on how to surf securely on WiFi networks. There isn't anything really new in the article, and you should already know everything in it if you use WiFi. However, it is a good antidote to those who are freaking out about just how insecure WiFi is.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Yep

Yeah, alot of people who aren't computer literate go out and buy wireless laptops to feel up to date. But, then they don't protect their PCs. Just go to an airport as the article suggests and check out how many hard drives you have full access to. Amazing.
