Yahoo Finally Discovers Social Networking And Blogs

from the took-'em-long-enough dept

Well, it took them long enough. Now that people have pretty much stopped talking about social networking sites, Yahoo is getting into the game with a combined social networking/blogging/photo sharing/etc. tool that basically seems to take everything that had buzz from the past few years and clump it all together. It's not a huge surprise, of course. People had been expecting Yahoo to get into this business for ages -- and there have been plenty of rumors about them buying some of the independent players in the space. While the details seem to suggest that there's something more, it still sounds like a me-too play. It'll be interesting to see if they can do anything to make it more interesting.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Whoa Mr. Negativity! ;)

Don't worry, they'll go broad over time. The big thing is that they completed the microcontent stack (going deep); the groundwork is laid.

    Re: What if

The same crowd also recently cut their own fingers off in front of the embassy because of a territorial dispute over an island. It caused the ambassador to flee the country in terror.
