How Panix Got Hijacked

Back in January NY ISP Panix (one of, if not the, first ISPs in NY) had their domain hijacked, and none of their customers could use it or get mail for a few days until the situation was resolved. Broadband Reports is now pointing to an explanation of what happened. Basically, a registrar in Australia let its resellers handle the authorization process, and that reseller didn't actually do the authorization -- they just said they did. So, apparently, all you need to do to hijack a domain is find a registrar reseller that doesn't actually do authorizations.
