Getting On Three WiFi Networks... At Once
While discussions about "neighborly WiFi" have been going for years, most people discover that, unless you're really close to your neighbor's access point, neighborly WiFi isn't exactly fast or reliable. Of course, like I recently discovered on moving to a new place, it was easy to see anywhere between four and ten networks at any particular time. While most were probably too faint to use, what if you could combine them all? Apparently, Bob Cringely was wondering exactly that and came up with a somewhat complicated, but fascinating, way to jump on three WiFi networks at once. It hardly seems practical, but like so many things, the idea of piggybacking on multiple WiFi networks seems intriguing and certainly could have other applications (redundancy anyone?) beyond just borrowing a cup of WiFi from a neighbor (or three).
