The Old Scams Are The Best Scams For Some Spammers?

from the coming-back-around dept

Every week or so we hear yet another story about yet another new spam related scam. Whereas email spam scams used to be confined to things like Nigerian advance fee frauds, they've been increasingly sophisticated phishing scams lately. However, it appears that some scammers simply can't give up on one of the oldest spam scams in the book: the stock pump and dump. These have been around for many years, but apparently enough scammers still find them profitable. This is still somewhat amazing. Who actually takes investment advice from unsolicited spam emails from people they don't know? It almost seems like anyone silly enough to jump into that game deserves to lose his or her money.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Someone pass the plunger, they won't flush.

I've gotten ten of these scam spams in the last week. That's in addition to all the pr0n, pharmacy, male enhancement pills, relationship enhancement creams, and verify my account info spams that overflow my inbox every day.
