WiFi Replacing RFID In Indy Cars
While there have been plenty of stories about WiFi in cars, one place to look for new advancements might be out on the racetrack. In the Indy 500 this weekend, a number of teams will have their cars equipped with WiFi to keep the data flowing. In the past, the teams used RFID, which only allowed a much smaller amount of data to flow. There have been similar stories in the past, but the Indy 500, of course, is one of the most well known car races around -- so it's giving the technology some added attention. While the data transmission needs of an Indy race car are obviously different than a standard car, it will still be interesting to see if Cisco (providing the WiFi gear) can learn from what they're doing to come up with better WiFi solutions for regular cars.
