Shocker: Young Males Dig Gadgets More Than Older Women
from the who-would-have-thunk-it? dept
In what I'm sure will be a surprise to... oh, um... none of you, a new study has found that (gasp!) young men are more likely to be early adopters of new gadgets than women over 45. Did they actually have to pay for this study to be done? The point, of course, is that some consumer electronics firms may be missing out on the over 45 female market, but that's not much of a surprise, is it? In fact, it seems likely that most consumer electronics firms are quite aware of that and chose the young male demographic on purpose -- perhaps because they're less rational about such purchases and don't care quite as much if the product actually... um... works.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Hormone Replacement Therapy
My girlfriend bought maple syrup-flavored chocolates at the Canadian duty free shop, gave them to her friend, whose 2-year-old kid ate the whole box in under a minute. Shouldn't there be electronic gadgets to punish kids when their blood sugar level gets too high? Something an older female engineer might invent.
