Death Of Sendo Leaves Open Plenty Of Questions

There was a lot of talk earlier this year when Sendo sold their assets to Motorola following a long and involved lawsuit with Microsoft that eventually ended with a settlement. The buzz coming out of that lawsuit was that there was an awful lot of evidence making Microsoft look pretty bad in how it treated Sendo... but apparently whatever settlement they got out of it wasn't enough to keep them in business. The final assets were sold for a mere $30,000, suggesting that the company had plenty of other problems to deal with as well. The Register notes that nowhere in the final filings is there any talk about the Microsoft settlement -- so it's likely that info will never come to light. However, it shows just how much Sendo was relying on Microsoft in its initial plans to create smartphones powered with Microsoft software -- and when they finally killed that deal, the company wasn't left with enough of a business to stay in business.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
