When The Super Market Aisle Starts Looking Like Times Square
from the buy-me!--buy-me! dept
We've been hearing promises about e-paper for years, so forgive us if we're skeptical about the latest claims from Siemens that their technology really works this time. Eventually someone may get there, but just having a company announce something in the field is clearly no indication of whether or not it'll ever really hit the market. What's odd, though, is that Siemens seems to be pitching this technology as being useful for packaging, suggesting a scenario where the cereal aisle at your nearest super market blinks and flashes at you as you try to decide just how much sugar is needed to make the various cereals taste good. Of course, what they don't explain is how they would ever make the stuff nearly as cheap as the current cardboard boxes -- which seems like it might keep most cereal makers away for now.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Re: No Subject Given
They'd probably say that was a DMCA violation, knowing how things work these days.
