And Where Is All That Non-Fundraising Money Going?
from the to-artists,-perhaps? dept
The story of Canadian politician Sam Bulte and her unwillingness to acknowledge how bad it looks for big US entertainment industry types to hold a fundraiser for her days before the election keeps getting sillier. Last week she accused anyone of being concerned about the rights of consumers as being "zealots" -- while also saying that they were trying to silence her voice. As has been pointed out repeatedly, no one is trying to silence her voice -- but to just ask that she also listens to others, something she hasn't shown much interest in doing. In her continued defense, she seems to like redefining things. Michael Geist points out that, despite calling the controversial event a fundraiser on her own website, she's now claiming that the event isn't a fundraiser at all, but "a celebration" for her "support for the arts community." Okay. So, if that's the case, where is all the money from the $250/plate dinner going? To the arts community? Or into her campaign?Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Re: No Subject Given
You can be in the X party, which is known for being "liberal" and still not be a liberal. I have no idea what the political system in canadia is though, so I couldnt say.
Taking bribes is taking bribes though. Its not illegal here in the US, I guess its not there either.
