President Bush Not Interested In Getting Involved In Qualcomm/Broadcom Patent Fight
from the leave-me-out-of-this dept
Back in June, Broadcom used a bit of a loophole to get Qualcomm in trouble over patents. Rather than just going the traditional court route, Broadcom had the International Trade Commission simply decide that Qualcomm infringed on Broadcom patents, and bar the import of certain next generation Qualcomm chips. While Qualcomm will still appeal the decision in court, it also appealed directly to President Bush. It would appear the President has more important things to do with his time than get involved in a pointless patent battle, as he's decided to allow the ban to stand. Once again, expect many more companies to start going to the International Trade Commission as a way of getting around court rulings that have been a lot less kind to bogus patents lately. In the meantime, Qualcomm claims it has a workaround to avoid infringing on the patent, but somehow we expect Broadcom won't be satisfied.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. The Bush ...
like go on vacations at our expense, and not being in Washington except to pass laws he wanted pushed through, and threaten other countries with his tyrannical style of rule, and ignore the public who he is supposed to represent.
With all those things to do, who has time for making sure the rest of the economical sector that he can't profit from as directly isn't going to suck it up from bad laws.

Can't Wait
Main reason for starting it and this one:
Can't wait to see all the flames for that first post.
I should go get a fire engine hose now.

Re: The Bush ...
While I may not agree with many things that our President does, I do think he did the right thing here by not getting involved. This is just not something he should be dealing with.
By the way, the fact that I don't think the President should get involved, does not mean I think the ban should be upheld. I just think that this is an area where the courts should handle the problem. Not the President.

What is wrong with a vacation?
Congress is on a 3 month recess, why does he need to be in Washington? He is still connected.
Sorry, I know it is off topic - but I hate hypocricy. Democrats who didn't care when Clinton went to Martha's Vineyard and whine about Bush going to Crawford are no better than Republicans who impeached Clinton and turn a blind eye when one of their Senators is caught with a prostitute.

Improve the laws
As far as Bush not getting involved - that's about the most sensible thing he's done in a very long time.

Tired of hypocrisy too
It's like it became cool to hate everything the president does. I don't know how many times I've had to hear a 18 year old kid rant on like Tofu about the president like that. It's like they've never looked at previous presidents' behavior.
Besides, Bush shouldn't get involved in patent issues. And, I am not a republican, or a democrat, because they both pull the same shit whenever one or the other is in power. Read a history book, kids.

Hmmm
You are right and Bush shouldn't be getting into this at all.
However the line "appears Bush has more important things to do" kind of pissed me off.
I do think our current president is a slightly larger waste of time than most though.
Although, since I have been able to vote, and consequently actually cared, he has been the only president so of course the previous ones seem a lot better. However, I am a little far away from being a teenager anymore.
I do hate both parties that we can select from.
I've stated that in several other threads.
3 month recess. Jesus. Pay them all that money, they get insane health care that we are forced to pay for (so they care less about state of public systems), they get outrageous pensions, only for having to work for 2 - 6 years (or more if they care that much), and they still take 3 months off a year? Please tell me it isn't really 3 months.

yes, and that recess is SO precious to them that they went ahead and passed a poorly-thought-out, overly-broad domestic spying bill cuz the president threatened to keep them after school if they didn't.

In fact I think both Democrats and Republicans both are a bunch of facist pigs.

Qualcomm/Broadcom Patent Fight
This is very smart of President Bush.
Politicians should not be taking sides in disputes between businesses.
That is what the courts are for.
Besides, President Bush has more important issues (such as fighting international terrorism and capturing Osama) to keep him busy than meddling in corporate disputes.

Osama
The guy who were in very high positions in the army at the time (right before Iraq) have stated such.
All they needed was more troops and they could have had him in Afganistan (sp?). But they were refused the troops because all of a sudden Iraq became a priority.
And then Osama got away.
But, we almost had him, and our army leaders requests for troops were ignored.
