DailyDirt: Understanding Kids
from the urls-we-dig-up dept
Young kids can be really fun to play around with, but sometimes they can be little terrors, too. By understanding how little kids think and behave, parents might be able to cope better with the "terrible two's" (which can extend into the "terrible three's and four's"). Here are just a few interesting links on studying our descendants.- There's a nascent science studying the phenomenon of children's temper tantrums. All tantrums could have a predictable pattern that might lead to better ways of coping with them and maybe avoiding them someday. [url]
- Plenty of parents try to tell their kids to "use words" to describe what they want. Are kids hard-wired for grammar to use their words, though? [url]
- While human babies weigh about 6% of the weight of their moms, newborn apes generally weigh about 3% of their mother's weight. Having big babies may have influenced the development of human society, encouraging our ancestors to become more social creatures to care for our kids. [url]

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
