DailyDirt: (Not So) Huge Tracts Of Land...

from the urls-we-dig-up dept

Maybe if you had a sizable fortune, you wouldn't want huge tracts of land to live on, but more than a few billionaires seem to like owning islands or a few hundred acres in remote locations. But you don't necessarily have to be rich to rule a tiny part of the world -- you just need to have the will to do it. Sorta. After you've finished checking out those links, take a look at our Daily Deals for cool gadgets and other awesome stuff.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

isn't it ironic that zuckerberg tells people privacy is dead and then spends millions securing his own? maybe what he should have said is privacy is dead if your poor.

    Re:

Mark Zuckerberg also famously said that people who trusted him to respect their privacy were "dumb fucks" -- a point that Zuckerberg has proven many times over.

Sometimes I really wish for the political climate of America as depicted in Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash where every neighborhood is it's own micronation.

    Re: Re:

Is there a list of Zuckerberg-isms like the dumb fuck and this privacy "say one thing do another" event so that I can post 'em to facebook in an attempt to be banned from facebook by facebook?

"That no-one has ever heard of"?

Picky, I know, but that's clearly not true.

    Re:

This practice is really nothing new. Obnoxious rich folks have been doing it for a long time. How long? Consider the following:

Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!
