One More Time, With Feeling: Winklevii Lose Yet Again

from the losers-many-times-over dept

Those poor Winklevii. Many people thought that the Winklevoss twins, Tyler and Cameron, along with partner Divya Narendra, had finally run out of legal options against Facebook when they realized they had no chance to appeal their rather stunning string of absolute losses in court. Instead, they'd just have to take the approximately $200 million worth of cash and stock they got in the original settlement and deal with only being fantastically more wealthy than pretty much everyone for having failed to build a compelling company or product. However, it only took a day for the Winklevii to start the process again and sue Facebook yet again in district court, under a new legal theory. However, it's taken less than a month for the court to dismiss the lawsuit entirely. Not surprisingly, it sounds as though the Winklevii will take this loss in the same spirit as every other loss, by petulantly demanding another shot at it. Guys, seriously, give it up.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    GREED knows no bounds.

But their "reward" is about proportional for effort to Zuckerberg's!

The ONLY method that works to limit such obscene "rewards" is to tax THE HELL out of The Rich. And no, I don't care if it "punishes" them. -- That's a stupid notion when each and every day Zuckerberg, Gates, Brinn, and way too many others get more than working people will EARN in a lifetime of hard work.

It's really sad that America can give so much money to such useless failures.

Then again, the whole existence of IP pretty much gives tons of money to useless failures.

    Let them keep going

Im sure they are spending top dollar on lawyers for all these lawsuits. I imagine eventually all that money they got originally will no longer exist and they won't be able to keep going. The problem will solve itself :)

    Positively Winklevossian

Got to use that term today to describe an entitled dbag action by someone. Gonna start using it a lot.

What harm do their failing lawsuits do to us? It seems more like a boon, in that they're spending so much of their own time and (their?) money cementing good actions in court. Isn't it all at their expense now?

This is stupid. I regularly have to decide between gas and food (if I walk to work I can eat today yay!) and even I can see that this is a horrible idea that reeks of communism, punishes success, and really in no way relates to the lawsuits at hand.

    Re: Re: Winklevii

Don't worry, it will soon be gone as they continue to pay lawyers large sums for no returns.

If the Winklevii had work as hard on their facebook idea as they are working on suing Facebook ... they would be the Billionairs right now.

    Should Be More Vegas

This could be fun for all, if only the system required them to put that first $200 mil on the line for future rolls of the dice in court.

    Double or nothing, Winkevii?
