DailyDirt: Don't Drink The Water?!

from the urls-we-dig-up dept

Drinking eight glasses of water every day might be overkill, but it's good to stay hydrated. Even though it's almost the end of summer (for folks in the northern hemisphere at least), here are a few quick links on quenching your thirst. By the way, StumbleUpon can also recommend some good Techdirt articles, too.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Not the average kind of milk.

Processed, corn fed, pasteruized milk is just as good for you as soda.

    Eh?

When I click on the amoeba link from the frontpage, it links to techdirt.com. In this 'read more' page, it links correctly.

    What's up with that?

Drinking eight glasses of water every day

"Drinking eight glasses of water every day" where did this come from and what proof is there backing it up?

Hydration Is Better With Something In The Water

You retain the water better if it has a bit of salt and sugar dissolved in it. Which is why I think drinking fruit juice is better than plain water.

Forget Camelbaks if you live in Seattle. Just wear a raincatch -- a raincoat that collects and purifies water for its wearer. It ain't pretty (and it's probably really heavy), but it'll keep you hydrated if you're really paranoid about potable water...

Did they get permission from Frank Herbert's estate before trying to create clothing that purifies and provides drinking water?

I was thinking similarly. But stilsuits would be out of patent protection if you accept Dune as prior art.

You normally know when you need a drink.

Most of the water we need comes from our food. Anybody who actually drinks 8 pints of water everyday will likely suffer from water on the brain. Which can be fatal or leave lasting damage.

Play it safe and pay attention to your body. You normally know when you need a drink. Because you're thirsty!

Re: Not the average kind of milk.

Don't think so. My kid is very thin and in much better shape than most of his peers, and I am still thin at 49 years old even though we both drink a pretty significant amount of whole milk every day.

There are certainly some negatives to drinking milk, but crap corn syrup based soda has more, and basically no upside.

This research is interesting to me, as I always drank milk for reasons of thirst when I was a kid and teenager, and everyone thought I was weird. I didn't start drinking water in any significant amounts until I was in my late 20s.

On the other hand, I'd be very interested in who funded the research, and if there are any dairy industry connections.

Well, can't find anything at the wikipedia other than government funding and long term endowments.
