Daily Deal: Hushed Private Phone Number
from the good-deals-on-cool-stuff dept
Having a disposable phone number is a great way to avoid undesireable contacts. For $49, Hushed Private Phone Number is offering a lifetime subscription to their service. You pick one private number (USA and Canada area codes) that you can use to send text and pictures, and make calls. Hushed gives you 1100 SMS or 500 phone minutes per year. Use your number once every 6 months to keep it activated. Every 12 months from activation, you need to renew your subscription at no cost to you. If you want more than one disposable number or more SMS/talk time, you will have to pay more. Hushed is compatible with Android and iOS devices.Note: The Techdirt Deals Store is powered and curated by StackCommerce. A portion of all sales from Techdirt Deals helps support Techdirt. Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

That hasn't stopped the telemarketing scammers, who are using dead or otherwise unused numbers. This thing sounds just like what the scammers are using.
