from the good-deals-on-cool-stuff dept

If you've been reading Techdirt for any length of time, you know how important it is to guard your data when browsing the internet. Today’s featured deal can help you do so. Get a 2-year subscription to NordVPN for $39, which comes with more than 43 server locations in 25 different countries, offering secure internet access from just about anywhere. All data sent through NordVPN's networks is double-encrypted, and the service includes an automatic kill switch that protects your data should the VPN connection drop. NordVPN lets you connect two devices, simultaneously, does not limit the amount of data you can send through the service, and has a strict no-log policy.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

As it turns out, "we don't do logs" is a rather meaningless statement when a VPN simply outsources logging. Furthermore, "logging" is not necessary to get you in hot water - it only means a VPN could be relaying your activities in REAL-TIME to 3rd parties, like federal agencies, etc., but technically, not "logging" (recording events on their end).

    Ivacy's better

I bought NordPN subscription a few months ago, but I frequently got disconnected from the server. The strange thing is it happened with me only and my friends had no problem using it. Well, I had to switch to another vpn that offered same price or less price. Ivacy looked like a good option so I tried it and even though the speed some times decreases, still it works better than Nord for me.

    Android support

I checked this comparison site and it seems NordVPN doesn't have android support. What a shame.

Do you know if this is true? I'm a 1+1 phone user.

    Re: Android support

Seems like the Android app is in development. Their blog has info about beta testing the app. I was the beta tester of Nord VPN Mac app and I was very impressed with their response rate and updates. Been with them ever since. Quite enjoy their socks5 proxy and TORoverVPN servers. I say this price is a bargain.

It has Android Support, I know as I'm using it now via their native app. So far all is good to no complaints.

Can still get a decent Nord deal

For anyone still interested in a pretty good NordVPN deal, you can still get it at quite the discount. According to https://www.fastestvpnguide.com/nordvpn-coupon-discount/ (and confirmed by yours truly), you’re currently looking at $2.99 per month on a 3 year and $3.99 per month on a two year plan. I got the 3 year.

It’s no $39 for 2 years as the original deal was, that’s for sure (that was an insane discount), but it’s still much better than paying full price. Hope it helps :)
