Oracle 8i Users Slow to Adopt New Features
from the so-what? dept
News.com has a non-story about users of Oracle's latest database: 8i, and the fact that not too many users are making much of its new features. I don't see why this is really that big of a story. In fact, if you read the article carefully you see that people really do like the new 8i, and they're interested in the features, but just haven't done enough with them yet, or aren't sure how stable they are yet. The article leads in as if 8i is a flop, and then you realize that it's just normal course of business: which is make sure new things work before you use them. It seems to me that the new 8i features are pretty cool, and will probably find a great deal of use in many companies down the road.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
