US West: Cheap DSL

from the broadband-broadband-broadband dept

At first I thought this was a smart move by US West. The original announcement that I saw made it seem as though they were going to be offering DSL for $19.95. But, then you read the smaller print and realize all they're really doing is trying to trick people into signing up for DSL. The $20 is just the connection fee. You still need to pay another $18 a month for the service fee, which puts it up around similar offerings from PacBell out west. This is still a cheap deal, of course, but not as good as the hype. Also, this US West deal isn't "always on", like most DSL services. In fact, they'll disconnect you if you're on too long, which might upset some users. One of the nice features of DSL is that you're always connected.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Re: FREE DSL

Freexdsl.com a owned by freewwweb.com is a trick. by signing up you agree to have them become both you local and long distance telephone provider and your cable provider if they choose. But wait you still get free dsl. It is all in their agreement small print. Don't be fooled.

    Welcome,
