College Portals Useless

from the maybe-a-vertical-portal-isn't-so-useful dept

People have been so focused on the concept of a "vertical portal" that maybe they forgot to check if anyone would actually use them. Wired has an interesting article suggesting that most college students see absolutely no reason to use one of the many "college student" portals that have been cropping up.

    I agree.

As a college student, I spend nearly all day at school, surrounded by ads for clubs, classifieds on bulletin boards, used textbooks for sale, tutors available. All the information I need is right there where I am, why the heck would I want to go home and spend even /more/ time in the "college community" at home?

    Boy oh boy !

I must say, this article does not make those average college students look very "smart".

But it does reveal one thing. Poor market planning and segmentation !
