Problems on New Years Probably Not Y2K Related

from the so-don't-start-rioting dept

The White House has released a report telling people that probability says that something will go wrong on Y2K because something goes wrong all the time. People should be careful not to blame Y2K for any problems they come across. I can't wait until the amusing stories of folks who freak out after their ATM won't give them cash.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Can you say "Zero Credibility?"

I mean, who cares what they say. I'm not that uptight about Y2K, mind you, it's just that I can only trust the White House to say exactly what they want me to think...

    Re: Can you say

Okay, point taken. However, I'm much more concerned about the reaction of folks who find some tiny thing go wrong on New Years and absolutely freak out, and if this report does anything to lessen the effect of that... well, that's a good thing.
