I thought B&N was actually being pretty smart about that. If you had a Nook, and came in to the store, you'd get coupons and sample chapters sent to your Nook when you walked in.
They know they're a library where "checking out" a book means "go to the check out and pay."
I really should go buy a magazine or something... I'd like bookstores, even huge corporate ones, to stick around.
Exactly. If I saw that sign on the door of a shop, I'd stick my head in the door long enough to make sure they saw me, and then turn around and go right back out again.
It's because the CFAA is what was being used to prosecute him, bringing that particular law into the limelight.
We have a lot of laws that get created as a reaction to something (Megan's Law, etc), and this is a new thing to react to.
It doesn't matter, really, WHY he killed himself. CFAA is largely a "bad law," and really should be fixed. The main argument is that our laws shouldn't make felons of otherwise honest people (not necessarily talking about Swartz here).

It's not hard at all. But if by doing that they alienate all the cable providers, who then freak out and pull HBO (which they might do... Look at AMC and Comedy Central's issues with cable providers in the last couple years), suddenly jumping in to the unknown internet doesn't look like a good idea.
Won't work. They'll just switch to getting all their money from PACs and SuperPACs, and you'll never know what corps are funding the PACs. So what if they're wearing "American Crossroads" on their lapel? It won't tell me where the money is really coming from.
Man, now I want to be a CEO. Do no work, possibly leave the company worse than when you found it, cash out in millions after having spent years playing golf with my other CEO buddies.
I think if they'd called it "SimCity Online," people would be less mad... They'd have the proper expectations about what the game actually is. And then everyone who was interested, but hadn't done any research would have known instantly from the title that it was going to have MMO-like launch issues.
Everyone who wanted a new single-player SimCity would have known to stay far, far away.
The DRM is stupid, but it's really one of the smallest issues making gamers mad.
Maybe you should read the part about captions again. If each of the things he released had the "tag" that they weren't classified, and even intended to be widely released... Then he didn't have to read each and every one. All he had to do was search the tag.

Having said that, the only deal I see them making is with Apple, to add an "app" to the AppleTV.

So all that means is that he saw it, misunderstood what MapLight was saying, and then deleted it.
I suspect he filled in the sentence with "received 15 times more [supporting messages] from pro-CISPA groups."
I suspect he thought he was re-tweeting a report implying strong public support for CISPA, not lobbying dollars.
