Very few corporate news sites are going to loose brand recognition because a few writers leave. BBC news, CNN News, the Washington Post, Breitbart, Huff Po and so on will continue long after any named writer has gone. (as evidenced by years of authorial churn on all of them)
How do you propose breaking up Facebook?
Geographically? Politically? By age? Favourite colour?
If I'm in one category, how can i maintain friendship links with someone in another? ... by finding another service that's more like Facebook-that-was, and 'round the cycle we go again?
And that's going to help them how? Not much of a learning opportunity, more of a 'super-heavy-handed parent' moment. Are you looking forward to those 'I hate you' "conversations" when the child reaches 16?
From the outside, one can't help take Trump's instruction to, what was it? oh yeah: "go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came" as an admission as to the state of his beloved country, given that three of them were born in said country, and are, if anything, as much from the US as he is given his own ancestry.
I'm about to get inside a metal tube with wings with a hundred strangers, any one of which could be a psychopath, narcissist or just a politician, for a trip through the air completely outside my control and comfort zone, of course I'm bloody stressed and twitchy!
Lawfulness, fairness and transparency - you must process personal data lawfully, fairly and in a transparent manner in relation to the data subject.
Purpose limitation - you must only collect personal data for a specific, explicit and legitimate purpose. You must clearly state what this purpose is, and only collect data for as long as necessary to complete that purpose.
Data minimisation - you must ensure that personal data you process is adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary in relation to your processing purpose.
Accuracy - you must take every reasonable step to update or remove data that is inaccurate or incomplete. Individuals have the right to request that you erase or rectify erroneous data that relates to them, and you must do so within a month.
Storage limitation - You must delete personal data when you no longer need it. The timescales in most cases aren't set. They will depend on your business’ circumstances and the reasons why you collect this data.
Integrity and confidentiality - You must keep personal data safe and protected against unauthorised or unlawful processing and against accidental loss, destruction or damage, using appropriate technical or organisational measures.

Erm, nope, this understanding of British politics and the power of privilege is completely accurate.
Boris has had the job of PM as his target for many years, and he's constantly manouvered around the hierarchy of the Tory party to achieve it. I bet he and Gove together decided that Gove would 'stab him in the back' by standing in the previous Tory party leadership election (that led to the coronation of T May), in order that Boris would avoid having to organise a Brexit agreement. Far simpler to step in now and say "it's all gone horribly wrong because of the nasty people in Europe, let's just leave and sod the consequences".
I really think you're over-thinking this (and projecting your tastes and foibles as well, but that's really beside my point). The good thing here is that two companies in separate markets have effectively agreed a non-disparagement treaty in a manner that means both companies can trade in the other's areas. They've agreed to give the punters more choice in their beer drinking, the rest is up to them.
Every food and drink producer likes to think their product has mass appeal (what hope for long term success is there without it) - it's not arrogance. But every food and drink producer also understands that tastes vary. I can't stand Hershey's chocolate, but I don't object to it being sold in the British Isles on the basis that 'not every chocolate will suit every market'. To do that would be the arrogant behaviour.

What an idiotic rant.
Mike has regularly said he doesn't care if Techdirt content is copied to other sites, though attribution would be preferred.
Ownership is bollocks, especially when it comes to creation. Every single creator is 'building on the shoulders of giants' - they're all derivative, whether consciously or otherwise. And in a digital era, copying is not theft, as the creator still has their creation, it's just that other people can see/hear/sense it too.
Linus Torvalds does not control Linux and hasn't done ever since he released the source code to version 0.1 back in the 1990s. And it's not crap, it underlies a tremendous number of the services you're using to connect to Techdirt for a start. And the broadband router you use to get your grubby little digital paw-prints out of your mother's basement more than likely runs Linux.
And if you want to talk about original ideas... what have you come up with recently that we should care about?
