Did you not read the article here on Techdirt regarding the ABA and SOPA?
"But... then the copyright lawyers flipped out. Despite this and other suggestions already being agreed to, the copyright folks proposed a bunch of changes -- including deleting the "penalty of perjury" inclusion. "
Hollywood doesn't want there to be any penalties for submitting a false claim.
No one hates the content creators. People hate DRM because of the hoops it forces people to go through. People love Steam because it's much more than DRM. It's a community.
If and when Valve ever collapses we will be the first to scream bloody murder if they don't do something to ensure that people will still be able to play their legally purchased games.
Did you happen to catch the remake of 'V' last year? The one about reptile aliens? Season one episodes were put online after each episode aired, making it very easy for me and my family to catch up on episodes.
ABC opted to NOT put season 2 online after the episodes aired. I don't know why they did that, but I missed the complete second season because I missed the season opener and they didn't put them online.
'V' is not available to stream on Netflix either, nor is it on Hulu. It is on Amazon though, but I'm not going to give ABC $2/episode. I'll wait until the Blu Ray edition hits $9.99 then buy it.
I don't think you understand how Karma works. Wyden is going to filibuster this bill that is being proposed by a small but powerful minority. If this bill were put to a national referendum it would fail by a huge margin.
Mr. Stones' logic is sound. They shouldn't punish him for something he did wrong if he later decided to drop the case. I mean, it's not like people that point guns at bank tellers and demand cash are prosecuted when the police surround the building and the bank robber drops his gun, right?
What if I made my own box and put it outside my home? If I didn't purchase an 'official' box but made my own, would that be a way around this nonsense?
Also, on the same note, is there any law preventing someone from say, starting a company that made these 'parcel boxes' that could be placed outside their homes for any delivery service to use?
It's only extreme because he was caught. There should be an investigation into how this was able to go on for so long now. Who did this agent report to and why didn't they catch on? Maybe the guy was exceptionally good at covering his tracks, or maybe his superiors were looking the other way.
"Any man (or woman) with a gun has the same sort of power to make your life hell. Yet, we don't take the exceptional cases of abuse of a fire arm as a reason to turf the second amendment."
Any man or woman, with or without a gun can make your life hell. It was this agents BADGE, not gun, that empowered him and gave him power.
Also, politicians are always grandstanding for more gun control. Every time someone gets shot the gun control advocates come out of the woodwork.
This story shows the need for more scrutiny and transparency of law enforcement. If the agent in question was held to higher standards, or had is work double-checked, this whole situation might have been avoided.
I remember the Highlander movie that differed significantly from the trailer. There were scenes in the trailer that didn't make it into the movie for whatever reason and I was pissed. Same holds true for music. If it's not in the movie then why have it in the trailer.
Lastly, I saw Lake Placid in a movie theater many years ago. The film burned out just as the old lady was walking towards the shore, at the end of the movie. There weren't many people in the theater at that showing and when I told the manager he just said 'yeah sometimes that happens.' I didn't ask for my money back but a free pass or discount would have been nice.
So as ridiculous as this lady looks for suing the studio I am 100% behind her.
To me it's like fast food places that show one thing in their advertisements but serve you something else.
If ESPN/Disney can't figure out how many people subscribe to or download their podcasts, they deserve to fail hard. And since ads are part of the show, people already expect them, so there isn't a problem having them in the podcast. This isn't like DVR and TV where people use it to skip ads, they just can't listen to it when it's on because of work or whatever.
ESPN is worried about ratings, but not because of ads. It's trying to prop the ratings up so they can collect more money from the affiliates that syndicate the show. Each affiliate runs its own local ads in addition to whatever ads are inserted nationally. Because of this, the various affiliates can't insert their ads in the podcast.
Sounds like an opportunity for someone at ESPN to generate more revenue by inserting a completely different set of ads into the podcast...
