Can't say I expected to start a WoW feud with my comment. MMO's didn't even occur to me. Then again, I lost 2 years of my life to playing Diablo 2 way back in the day so I try to stay away from them.
Sorry Mike but I think this is one where you're wrong. I agree there's no reason to make their own OS but some of your points don't make sense.
* On Android, "turning that into a more complete operating system seems like the way to go."
I think they'd like to keep Android mostly running on embedded devices. It's much easier to keep it stable within a controlled system and optimize it for a specific set of hardware.
* Chrome itself still needs a ton of work.
They aren't turning Chrome into an OS. They're just calling the OS Chrome OS. There's a difference.
If they are smart they will likely just make this OS into a Google centric distro of Linux. Include various notifiers and provide a slick UI which google tends to do. I think we need to wait for more details to come out before we start to make judgments on this.
Anyone know of a single newspaper with a decent comments section? I haven't found one. Most of the blogs I read are only because they have an RSS feed. Only time I click through to the actual page is when the topic is one which interests me and I'd like to see what other readers think. Newspapers, are you listening? Maybe if you allowed more people to read your news and comment on it, they'd actually come to your site.
I could honestly care less what your specific opinion of the iPhone's touchscreen keyboard is. My point was to look at the number of people that have bought the damn thing. Clearly people agree that the keyboard is usable, otherwise that many people wouldn't have bought the thing.
If you read my comment, I said that I had used a winMo phone which only had a touchscreen keyboard. That experience is horrible. I agree that slide out physical keyboards rule.
I'm gonna point to the iPhone in agreeing hole-heatedly with this one. It clearly wasn't the first smartphone but the simplicity and ease of use of the UI contributed greatly to it's success. When the thing was first created, I had significant doubts about the ease of use with the touchscreen keyboard (it wasn't the first to use one of those). I had used them on Windows mobile devices in the past and I don't think there is a worse experience than typing on a tiny keyboard with a stylus. 2 years later, I've been proven wrong and it turns out people can actually use that on screen keyboard.
Here's the thing. What ticket master usually does now is just sell the damn tickets for 200 themselves since they know people will pay that much and keep the extra money. Which of course leads to scalping the ticket for $400.
What pisses me off more than anything is the f-in convenience charges. They will force you to buy these paperless tickets. Then charge you $5 to give it to send it to your cell phone or something.
Why the F is it more expensive for me to print out the ticket on my home computer, or have it sent straight to my cell phone than it is for you to mail it to me. Heck, mailing it to me is the only thing that actually costs money of those options.
Sell and run was I believe how it worked. There are currently rumors that the original developers are in talks to buy it back at a significantly lower price.
I'd like it's important for reporters to have an opinion when an opinion is part of the story. Why should the reporter just take the person's word for it. Look up the facts, investigate. Isn't that why you're reporting in the first place.
When you are simply reporting an event your own opinion is irrelevant however.
I notice opinions being thrown around a lot more often with reviews. A lot of movie reviews simply state their own opinion of the movie rather than talk about the qualities of it. I don't want your opinion of the movie. I want you to tell me what it does well and what it does poorly. Then let me decide if that's the kind of movie I want to see.
Not just weekly ads. I saw a pretty risque ad in the Washington Post this morning (I believe it was somewhere in the metro section). I don't have kids but if I did, I think I'd much rather see these types of ads tucked away on craigslist where people have to explicitly click on them than in my daily freaking newspaper for the children to see as they make their way to the kids section.
What's that, we can use the site to send nastygrams to anyone? What are the names of some of those RIAA and MPAA lawyers? Hell, if enough people did this it would rank up there with that Piratebay payment scheme.
Here's the question, is the MPAA aware that BayTSP's process is unsecure? If not, then they're just idiots. If so, hasn't some government official grandstanded about this insecurity and put it into a law. What about the children? These insecurities could hurt the children.
