Re: Re: Given their numbers, it's a self-correcting problem
I remember when the American right praised Tim Tebow for his politics and continually making religious gestures on field.
Didn't he kneel after scoring a touchdown? I wonder what possible reason there could be that the religious right objects to some kneeling and not others.
That's what you get when you allow contracts to trump everything else.
What does this have to do with contracts? Those restaurants frightened of naming their specials after the Super Bowl don't have a contract with the NFL.
Your password to your home or office network is something that that you cannot be compelled to hand over in Canada, Australia, Britain, New Zealand, or the United States.
I don't know about Michigan but in a jurisdiction and situation where compelled production of passwords is allowed they could issue a subpoena for the password and jail you for contempt if you don't produce it.
It depends what you mean by "bad thing". Do you mean he shouldn't have done that, given the circumstances? Or do you mean that it was a bad outcome? I think he did what he had to do, and it was a bad outcome. So is that "a bad thing"? Or "a good thing"?
Re: Re: Re: Prison Guards, Police, Priests, and boy scout leader
Absolutely fantastic deterrent.
Perhaps if anyone is accused of such we should just immediately shoot them in the head. That would be a great deterrent, no? You don't really believe in the Constitution much, do you?
Maybe some of that, maybe some anger that a white person faced some consequences for breaking the law. There's a reason he consistently refers to her race, and capitalizes the 'w' in 'white'. The most obvious explanation is that he thinks race is really, really important and it's quite significant that it was a white (White) person who was shot. One wonders at his reaction to unarmed black mothers being shot by police.
Hi Rocky, to clarify, it is the PLATFORMS that are immunized by Section 230 from what users post, even if users post libel, hate speech, incitement speech etc.
You're proposing that Party A be liable for what Party B writes?
“if you can’t monitor your own platform sufficiently, either with humans or algorithms or both, to make sure that it doesn’t have hate speech, incitement speech, kiddie porn, libel – in other words that it doesn’t have illegal speech – then maybe you shouldn’t be in business.”
Perhaps you are not familiar with the idea that content moderation is impossible to do "correctly".
Question for you, why do you keep describing her as an "unarmed white mother" rather than as a "person illegally breaking into the US capitol with apparent violent intent as part of an armed mob." I mean, I think I know why, but I'm curious what your answer is.
The heart of your argument, that you have a 1st Amendment right to not associate with a company that allows free speech that you consider "abhorrent", is specious.
Where do you get this interpretation of the right of free association?
All social media should be immediately treated as just another utility like the phone company.
On what basis? The justification for regulating utilities is that they are natural monopolies, and switching from a social media company is as easy as going to a different web site.
You appear to believe that only accepted speech should be free.
Unsurprisingly, you are conflating government and private actors. All speech is and should be free from government interference, other than a few narrowly tailored exceptions. Speech is not free from consequences, including what other private actors choose to do about your speech.
It doesn't matter if these companies are private or not. They must be classified as utilities. How's that for some sanity?
Pretty insane. Fortunately even the people in Congress who want to repeal or "reform" Section 230 haven't expressed any interest in trying to classify social media companies as Title II common carriers. So I'm not too worried about this terrible idea of yours.

Kellyanne: It is disrespectful, it’s a violation of basic decency, certainly, if not marital vows . . . as “a person familiar with their relationship.”
Me: No, we’re on the record here. You can’t say after the fact “as someone familiar.”

It's very unlikely ads and spam will take you over the cap. The amount of data used by streaming video generally is completely dominant.
