are you saying the entertainment industry might actually "innovate"? oh no your talking about some silly concept that doesn't make sense. Besides people will still upload whatever content they want to the internet anyway, they inevitably will because the entertainment industry insists on making it the absolutely hardest thing to get the content legally. So don't blame pirates for uploading things to an easy to use torrent/magnet system if they don't want to jump through 7 flaming hoops to sell their first born child for a silly song.
there was music before there was an ipod you know... He's talking about for example, buying it on vinyl, then on CD, then on a digital copy. Then of course theirs the problem of it being "illegal" to back up songs or movies with DRM so if something happens you have to buy a completely new one.
When does "pirating" 3 songs you could buy on itunes for .99 each get you disconnected from the internet, while shoplifting a 3 candy bar from a gas station gets you a slap on the wrist?
The reason your confused about this is because whoever wrote this is from the old school of thought that people only create in order to profit from said creation. The mere thought of creating something for the sake of creation and giving it out for free probably never even crossed the mind of the author.
you raise a fair point! though I think it's more that patents actually have a reasonable time frame to "recoup" losses while copyright has an extremely long time to make obscene profits for no good reason.
Copyright is a "Temporary monopoly" issued by the government, and the way I see it it's kinda like a government issued license, such as a driver's license. So, arguing for perpetual copyright is kinda like arguing that since you have a driver's license all of your decedents deserve one too. And of course lets not forget that all of this ignores the whole "temporary" part... Any way that's the way it looks to me, if a tad bit simplified. Does this seem about right or am I missing the mark? seriously I want to know so I can understand this whole copyright thing better.
This is a Law written by Reddit not a senator... so it's technically not even being considered by congress so it can't be held. unless there's a congressman named Reddit I've never heard about... you'd think with a name like that you would remember it...
