But HTC and Samsung have impressed me lately with their commitment to opening up their phones, so I might go with them next round instead. Pay attention, Motorola!
I’m sure the hard-as-nails police departments around TN will feel very “emotionally distressed” when someone posts their dirty laundry to YouTube. What possible “legitimate purpose” could the filmmakers have for showing our fine boys in blue dispensing “justice” to an uppity citizen? They were obviously just trying to start something.
If You Want to Retain Credibility, Explain, Don't Threaten
In addition, transparency can be misused on several levels – by providing unprofessional or poor-quality interpretation of information or documents, by conducting superficial or biased analysis, by lack of experience on the topic or by pursuing a political agenda.
The counter to superficial, erroneous, or just plain bad speech is not censorship; it's more speech.
You didn't notice the price for a bitcoin jump from $9.60 to $17.60 after the Gawker story? Speculation is rampant. I guess we'll see whether or not it's a "bubble", though.
Is it possible to use BitCoins anonymously? Yes. Is it easy? Not really.
You sure? "h3g53hjh3g43hgj sends 20 BTC to jhg346jhg45jhg" is pretty anonymous, unless you put your name and address in the note field or something . . .
You are downplaying this. Download the Tor Browser Bundle, unpack it, and you could be on that site in seconds. It's not that difficult at all.
You are correct. I was able to get to the site with only minutes of setup.
Probably? That's a faith-based assumption. I take it you have no data. If not, then you're grandstanding too, you know.
For the prices they are charging on Silk Road, I gather no one will be "flooding the street" with anything. Not being familiar with the street price of drugs myself, I have heard it said that the Silk Road offerings have a healthy markup (no doubt a premium charge due to the security of it all), which would make it quite difficult to then flip the stuff on the street and still turn a profit. It seems to be tailored towards retail, not wholesale.
Nobody's going to jail for simply posting a YouTube video. [...] The idea that the feds are going to use this law to bust the average YouTube user is laughable.
Of course not. They'll go to jail for something that isn't actually illegal (e.g. protected speech), but pisses off someone important. The YouTube link will just be the way they make the prosecution legal.
I put it in quotes but I purposefully left the attribution out because people get brain lock when they see her name, and I really wanted to express my agreement with the sentiment rather than get into an irrelevant argument about what people thought of her personally or the rest of her philosophy.
So you're saying throw out everything by any user that gets hit with one DMCA?
What does a DMCA have to do with violating a terms of service? Did he even get hit with a DMCA? I didn't see anything in the post that would lead me to believe that Google didn't investigate the claim before they booted him. Do you know otherwise?

The people shooting and pointing guns in this story were police officers. Would it be better if only the police had guns and not the rest of us?
