From reading the comments on this post I have realized that old people are cranky. I always thought that "Get off my lawn" stuff was a long running joke. I mean, we have people who agree with this post (I would dare say, the younger group) saying that voice-to-voice communications have a place, but it's a smaller and smaller place. A very reasonable response.
Then the posts that start with "I'm old" and end with smashing phones with hammers, or using phrases like "stupid little keyboards". C'mon ladies and germs, why the hate? If you don't like it, fine. I'm probably going to really hate teleportation when I reach your age, because the point-a-to-point-b method will work after a tornado knocks the power out. (That last bit was sarcasm, btw)
Though, I have to say, having every house I've ever lived in pre-wired with land lines makes it very easy to pipe music into every room of the house on the cheap. Thank you, Mr. Bell! :P
"Merry Christmas, I emailed you some MP3s" is just not the same.
Ignoring the fact that I've never been called by someone so they could tell me what gift they just mailed me ( :P ) I believe it would now be amazon mp3/itunes gift cards, yes?
I look at the CDs as basically a back-up system for my hard drive, should it ever shit the bed.
Funny, I look at the internet as a backup system for my hard drive. (when it comes to music, anyway)
It just so happened that I ran into this last month, when I had a (admittedly very old) hard drive fail on me. Luckily, the only thing on it I cared about were a few hundred mp3s. So, instead of heading to the basement to dig around for the CDs, I headed to a popular torrent site and took care of it. Did I do something illegal? Probably. Should it be illegal? I obviously don't think so.
Wait until you get sued by some shell company in Texas who has a very broad patent that covers your implant and you have the choice of giving them 25% of your gross income to license the patent or spend 33% of your capital fighting it in court.
Then you'll understand that the system doesn't work for anyone new to the market. Ever.
Is this how you've raised your daughter and son to behave, as well?
As a side note, you put an alarming amount of personal information online, especially since you seem to act like quite a jackass on this blog. Normally it is the other way around. Very curious.
As for fans turning a profit from their work which uses Nintendo characters... if you're trying to turn a profit, you're not a fan anymore. If you're a fan, you do it for free, only for the fun of it.
I still don't understand this line of thinking. Are you saying that despite the work that goes into making a movie, because it's based in a fantasy world he didn't create (but is part of his culture) that he doesn't deserve to be rewarded for his talents? Care to explain why?
If the film were going to start actually turning a profit for the creator then they kind of crossed the line where they're profiting off someone else's intellectual property.
I'm sorry, but I can't agree with this statement, which makes no sense unless you're an executive of a company and/or greedy.
Just because someone is making money from your IP doesn't mean you are losing money. A quick Google search shows me that there are no "offical" Zelda movies, so no matter how much money the fan movie might make, it isn't taking revenue from Nintendo, as they do not have a competing product. The worst it can do is nothing, the best it can do is drive more people to play the game.
The fans would be happy and Nintendo would stand to make more money. That is called a "win-win" for those of you playing at home.
CM6 is great, and what I'm running at the moment. Also, Simply Stunning is good, and I hear Bugless Beast is nice, but that's secondhand knowledge.
I just rooted a coworker's Droid Incredible, and lemme tell ya, it's about 300 times easier than when I rooted my Droid. Litterally, I just clicked a button and waited 2 minutes.
Not to mention, if word gets out that so-and-so band spams you with email when you sign up for their music, people will stop signing up for their music.
The free market naturally solves these things.
I like the idea of an email address for music. The artist can send a follow-up email after a week asking for feedback, as well as saying that if you like what you heard, please take time to pimp them on the social networking site(s) of the your choice.
I don't know if it would be sustainable, but who knows?
