"It's stupid and irrational, but by and large, that's how your species rolls."
So what species do you belong to?
Take me to your leader, we come in peace, shoot to kill and other close encounter/star trek parody quotes.
"Should you allow someone to rape you at any point that they want"
The use of the word 'allow' would mean it's not rape.
"but maybe down the road they will decide that they want to rape another of your holes and will pay for that one"
As discussed, not rape because you've allowed it, also I believe what you're describing is prostitution.
"Or maybe out of gratitude for your willingness to be raped"
Willingness also means it's not rape, unless you're talking about role playing, kinda kinky, if you're into that sort of thing...
"they will give you some cash or buy you a case of beer."
I think, again, we're back to prostitution, that's quites the obsession you have there.
That's not irony, the irony would be if you were looking to be a student at a university that would charge you tens of thousands of dollars for 30 weeks, yet complain about a one hundred dollar textbook.
What you're alluring to is double standards, though even that's stretching it.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: @ " pulling down your pants, twirling your penis around"
I'll take it that either the questions were too difficult, you deem me not worthy of a response or you have decided to leave, I hope it's not the latter, my questions were meant to be serious and genuine.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: @ " pulling down your pants, twirling your penis around"
Mr O_O_T_B;
A couple of questions and points:
Why do you insist on naming 'Dark Helmet' by his 'real' name if you, yourself, choose to post anonymously?
Has he offended you directly in some way, or have you singled him out of the many community members who sometimes use profanity in their posts?
You are part of the community, you make yourself so by the continued commenting and interaction with other community members. Just because you don't hold the same views as many of the article authors (or comment authors for that matter), and insist on personal jibes, does not make you any less a member of the community. It's human nature that leads us to having different opinions and I, for one, am glad that I've found a place that lets anyone express any view that they have without censorship.
You may not have signed up to the site, but you are a member of it's community.
I think your last line is well founded but should not be exclusive for Dark Helmet, personally, I find it very difficult to trust complete strangers, though this doesn't stop me from debating with them and commenting when I see fit.
Re: Re: Re: @ " pulling down your pants, twirling your penis around"
"Timothy Geignern, aka "Dark Helment" wrote: "So, here's the thing. I want a real debate. I want the other side to show me where Mike, myself, and others might be wrong. But you're not doing it."
"If you want real debate, you'll have to SAY something, sonny."
I believe he did, by saying he wants citation and clear concise arguments, which, by his own admission MAY change his opinion.
Unfortunately for you, this is an open forum so your suggestion for less vulgarity is more than likely going to fall on deaf ears.
Unfortunately for this DH fella, this is an open forum so your repeated critism of his writing style is looking like the closest thing he's going to get to a valid argument.
However 'vulger' you find his analogy, it probably demonstrates the frustration he is feeling and also, to me at least, made his point clearer than no analogy at all.
Re: Ranks right up there with other philosophical questions
The egg came first, it stands to reason, reptiles were here before birds and reptiles lay eggs; of course if you're asking what came first, the chicken or the chicken egg, then it has to be the chicken - for an egg to be a 'chicken egg' it needs to have been laid by a chicken...
Am I thinking too much about this... or not enough?
Nice post, but with nothing new to add I'll just paste the monologue from the Godsmack song - Vampires; very hallowe'en-y:
Few creatures of the night have captured our imagination like Vampires
What explains our induring fasination with Vampires?
What is it about the vampire myth that explains our interest?
Is it the overtones of sexual lust, power, control?
Or is it a fasination with the immortality of the undead?
And what dark and hidden part of our Psyche are aroused and captivated by the legends of the undead?
The mystery of the undead will continue to fasinate the living
I don't think it's being snubbed, the film is getting publicity still, it's just that the star of the show can't be interviewed; which I still think his legal team ought to be all over. It cannot be doing his future employment opportunities (outside of disney) any favours if he cannot promote his own talent.
On your first two points, if he doesn't read his contracts, then, in my opinion, he is just as much to blame for it's content as the people who wrote it. He's willing to put blind faith into said contract.
He's a massive star, I think disney need him more than he needs disney, if there's any undue pressure being applied it ought to be from his legal team, not disney.
Shouldn't Depp himself be taking some of the blame here, after all, he must have willingly signed the contract that forbids him to talk about his other projects?
You could turn it around and say that he neither appreciates his fans nor his own publicity, or that of his other employers.
Aren't bags scanned before they get loaded? Surely legally carried guns should have to be declared?
If this got through, what's to say something a little more explosive can't go the same route?
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Trademarks, copyright, patents, money. They need to go away.
Without money, yes, but not without knowing the values of their possesions, humans have always traded items which they consider to be lesser value than the items they wish to receive (someone with too much food would consider trading some, as it's of low value to them, to someone who can offer shelter, or protection or pretty much anything that they needed to survive)
