I suppose that doesn't rule out the need for medical emergencies. I'd have to think hard about a risk analysis on that one. How often do we need communication for real full-blown life-threatening medical emergencies?
I suppose that would be enough for frequent travelers to need cellular.

This is true, but there's something to be said for not having to be on all the time. There are times I am specifically unavailable to clients and friends, because I'm doing something else.
I wonder how much of this justification is the perception that we need to be plugged in 100% of the time? Hell, when I was a kid and on a dirt road and my crap car died, I still survived.

At many universities Google is providing the apps/email system. For example, UofMinnesota runs it's own google-powered nodes.
Can google and the Uni both snoop that? Inquiring minds want to know.
