I hope you do. Meanwhile there is a distinct lack of support and respect for professional musicians on Techdirt unless they fit your narrow type.
Really? I support professional musicians by going to their concerts. I know that they receive money by people going to their concerts, not buying their albums. Like all other humans, I don't go to concerts of professional musicians who don't fit into my narrow type because, well, they don't fit into my narrow type. I don't listen to Rap music (well, most Rap.) I don't listen to Country music either. Why should I buy the music I don't want to listen to? (And no, I figure you are going to say something like don't download it either, I don't download what I don't like listening to either.)
Why should I support musicians I don't have any interest in listening to?
As someone who is an independent artist i have a keen interest in anything that seeks to weaken my ability to protect my hard work.
Man, I wish I knew who you were so I could stop buying your stuff. I tend to only buy from independent artists (actually, that is all I buy now-a-days.)
But I don't want to support independent artists that treat me the same way the RIAA does. I like supporting people who treat me with the same respect I treat them, and don't accuse me of stealing the stuff I buy from them. I suspect, given your childishness that I probably don't like your music anyway, so I guess it really isn't that important.
Lady Gaga was sued for copyright infringement, not plagiarism (filed in August, 2011,) and the lawsuit has not yet been heard by a judge. Quite a few legal and news blogs say that this will go nowhere.
Filed this month. Just because someone sues doesn't mean that they automatically win. Also, sued for copyright infringement, not plagiarism. Jury hasn't even been impaneled yet.
Nothing here says anything about plagiarism being against the law. However, it reaffirms what I said, that you can be sued for copyright infringement, not plagiarism.
Might want to check the pages of google links, because they aren't doing what you think they are doing.
Definition: Plagiarism is the action or practice of taking and submitting or presenting the thoughts, writings or other work of someone else as though it is your own work.
Which is against the law? No. It will get you kicked out of college, but good luck with suing. Plagiarism is not copyright infringement, although if you take someone's work and copy it, discard their name and post it as your own, you can be sued for copyright infringement, but otherwise good luck.
Didn't Maximillian end up in the Black Hole, not "hell"?
He ended up in the Black Hole, but I think the movie somehow equated the Black Hole with Hell. When you saw the final inside the singularity shot in the movie, it was all fire and brimstone, with Dr. Reinheardt inside Maximilian floating above lava. Also, if I remember correctly, the movie was not at all scientifically accurate.
Apparently that came to an end and Mr. Taplin feels that it's wrong and it's sad that the band members are broke
Hookers and blow ain't cheap.
If you stopped working and received 6 figure income for many many years for work you did in the past, shouldn't you just be happy for what you had?
I hope when I retire, I can have a high 5 figure income for many years, but it is important to note that I only am able to do so because I am putting a part of my paycheck away each time I get paid for that purpose. So many people I know don't do that, expecting that the government will take care of them after they retire. I am sure Social Security will be bankrupt by the time I call to collect.
I think a lot of people live in the moment, not caring about the future. That tends to be part of the problem.
I have four ninjas that I just procured, but they aren't getting along with the three samurai in my collection. I don't think Pirates have a problem with samurai, but I know they hate ninjas. I'd be willing to trade my four ninjas for two pirates.
States should start remembering that they have rights too, and begin to exert them.
I think this is the important part. The states were in control to begin with, but then the Federal government pushed for more and more power and the States gave it to them. If anything, I'd just split California up into two states (North and South) and then revert all power back into the states, but that won't happen.
A maximalist is either someone who is obsessed with the Mad Max movies, or someone who worships the big maroon robot from "The Black Hole", depending on who you ask.
NNNNNOOOOOOO!!!!!
I cannot be a maximalist. I cannot. Yet I love Mad Max (well, maybe not Thunderdome,) and Maximilian was an awesome robot (though I cannot say that I worshiped it.) Was more a fan of V.I.N.C.E.N.T., but what self-respecting nerd didn't want Maximilian to be their friend in junior high?
According to you, I guess I am now the largest shill for the MAFIAA. Oh well, needed the extra money anyway. Who do I need to contact to start collecting my shill wages?
Once again I find someone challenging my firm conviction that people should have freedom of speech.
It is one of the reasons I am happy our laws don't include freedom to disappear. We are afforded the opportunity to speak our mind and everyone else is afforded the opportunity to laugh derisively at what we have to say.
Id gladly pay $20-$30 a month for streaming netflix if everything went to it.
I'm already paying $20-30 a month for Netflix (both streaming and DVD) and I'm not going anywhere. Netflix is still the best deal in town, and with all the new stuff they've been adding, including all the TED talks (which you can get on the TED website, but I like having them all in one place, with descriptions and can play them in order,) I don't think I'll run out of things to watch any time soon.
How is Hollywood to charge Netflix for fires in Botswana?
What is sad, and clearly should be illegal, is that WB charges everyone for when a WB movie burns down in Botswana. Where in the world of business can a company charge for the same loss many different times? When I worked for a company that sold electronic equipment and something was damaged or destroyed -- we could only charge the insurance company or take it off of our taxes as a loss once. Where can I get a job where I can charge everyone for the same loss many times? I want that job.
This is wrong you can absolutely track where others go
Tunneling proxies take care of that. You can only track the entry to the proxy, but after that, you have to track the proxy.
you cannot track what is being transmitted unless you get hold of the private key, but that is not a problem for the American government since most key issuers are American companies
As the other A/C said...you don't give your key up when you get your certificate, so this is not a problem.
ou bring an interesting analogy to mind: in the world of television, PBS commercials are analogous to Google text ads, compared to regular commercials which are like animated/flash/banner ads.
I don't block Google ads. And PBS ads (even the ones they have now that are basically 30 second real ads) don't bother me. I wonder if the Ad folks are listening here (probably not.) I block all other ads (and flash is blocked by default due to it being the slut of all software and allowing just about anything into your computer.)
It is an apt analogy and a bonus is that it didn't include cars.
