hence, tidal generators, wind turbines, solar power (focused light gives you heat for the typical steam turbine reaction, not reactive chemical cells) who's 'worst case' is more along the lines of 'wow, that takes up a fair amount of space' combined with 'aaand... now it's broken. no power until we fix that.
region locking is a big one. (in that NZ and australia are in the same region but NZ's ratings board equivilant is a lot less restrictive)
and the issolation is from Current stuff. i'd say that months long (sometimes years long) delays on stuff shown on tv and 'sorry, this (freely available at no cost) material is not available in your country' type internet pages are more significant.
of course, Sometimes we get stuff delayed here because it actually makes sense to only make one shipment to Australasia rather than two... which means that when there's a dedicated australian release of something we get that (as opposed to the usual practice of giving us american PC stuff and european console stuff)... which would be fine except that such releases are usually months delayed.
only if your computer's cooling systems are failing.
otherwise you're only seeing it, and it's only a non-story if you fail to consider the amount of stupid that usually goes on when these kinds of things crop up...
which, if you read the actual article properly, you'll notice Mike spending most of the last paragraph on addressing exactly this claim.
i believe it was decamated... (that is, ten of it was destroyed). or was it eight? whatever, there were attempts to claim losses greater than the sum total of all money in existance, anyway.
ya know, technically conservatism is supposed to be about slow and pragmatic change only when necessary, as opposed to progressivism which is about change entirely because the thing being changed to is 'new' and thus 'better', and reactionism (reactionaryism? is there even a word for this in this form?) which is about change back to how things 'used to be'(usualy they weren't actually like that exactly, but who cares?) because that was somehow 'better'.
lots of people like to forget that.
and it amuses me how utterly most americans miss that their entire political spectrum is massively right-shifted compaired to the rest of the world, economically speaking.
an awful lot of people seem to forget that the only true difference between democrats and republicans, is entirely who they pick to blame for all the country's problems.
(on a random unrelated note, someone seems to have broken firefox's spell check. it doesn't even recognize 'only' as a word at the moment)
because ignorance is less insulting than stupidity, and it is polite to give people the benefit of the doubt when there is no significant evidence to the contrary on a given issue.
that's my biggest pet hate with representative democracy really. most of the time it changes Nothing, no matter who's theoretically in power... but it gives the general public a perpetual illusion that it will. meaning they never get active enough to actually cause necessary change.
exceptions exist, naturally, but representative democracy's big thing is not actually, liberty, justice, the people having a say, th ewill of the people, or anything of the sort. the one and only thing it does well is stability. which is fine as longa s everything works...b ut the moment something breaks it just makes it massively harder to fix again.
... heck, we've got townships (think villages that don't necessarily actually contain anything but a hub intersection for the local farming area and maybe a church, school, shop, and/or petrol station, which except for the last, may all be on different side roads out of sight of the main one. in some cases the only noticeable indication the place exists is the sign) here in NZ... some of their names end in 'ville' as in 'village'. (a township is basically anything too small to be labeled a town that none the less does function as if it were one. villages are included.)
