We need to start standing up to greedy companies like this one. Write to congress, write to the lawyers that are sending out these legal nasty-grams. I have linked to an image of the letter from the lawyers below. There is contact information on it. I encourage anyone and everyone to write to them telling them what you think of this.
I couldn't find any management nor departmental email addresses otherwise I would post those. None the less, tell them what you think of their shameful business practices. If someone can find a direct email to someone at Williams-Sonoma that will listen then please post it here.
I can guarantee you that many politicians outside the U.S. are proud to be morons. I visited the British parliament while it was in session in late 2008 and there was plenty of stupidity and useless whining going on there too. Plus I read about it all the time for other countries.
I wish it were that simple. In truth, yes, if everyone ignored a law or an order from someone over them then the power of the law or order is lost entirely. But that requires quite a bit for that to happen.
Ok, I have to say that ever since seeing the first commercial in the new ad campaign I have had a lot more respect for the company. They are owning up to their own failures and are openly doing something about it. Props to them for stepping up and admitting when they were wrong. You don't see that very often, from companies nor individuals.
Ok, you got me there. I skipped over the third option of increasing/enabling/encouraging more competition by changing other laws.
You are absolutely right, if they have to compete then they also have to listen to their customers. They anger enough of them and they will lose their business.
Unfortunately Mike you seem to miss a point that you have actually rather clear. I see this as a damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario.
Your damned if you do create net neutrality laws because of this kind of manipulation. Though I would argue that as soon as such exceptions are made they can no longer call is net neutrality by definition.
However you are also damned if you don't because without regulation the ISPs will just walk all over their customers at their leisure because of other laws that restrict competition regionally.
So either way we are hosed. Give us an option that is better and I would love to consider it.
All I have to say is WTF (I know this is ironic given the next part of my comment, but work with me here people) and go back to elementary school and take 1st grade English again.
Actually I believe that it is possible that this guy may feel the EM/RF fields in some way. I have a friend that used to get nasty headaches every time she held her cell phone up to her head to use it.
She still wanted to use it and try to work around her physical reaction to it so she started looking for something to help shield her head from the device. She found this little plastic shield thing that had something embedded in it that would shield her from the fields and since she started using it she hasn't had a problem.
It is possible that this was psychological, but it took her a while to determine that her headaches were caused by her phone. So it may not be. None the less, I think we know too little about the human brain and the effects things have on it to really know for sure. It is possible that people with the extreme sensitivity to the fields are very very rare and none ended up in that double-blind study.
All I know is I am open to the possibility. But I think this guy may be over-reacting a bit. He should look for a more diplomatic solution because he is going to run into these problems wherever he goes these days. Course, given that thought it is more than likely the guy is being a hypochondriac.
Oh and my cost will drop from $127.50 to $41.94 a month (for just internet). Those are nice savings.
By the way, does anyone know of any set top boxes that can connect to the internet to update its TV schedules and automatically record my shows (without paying for a subscription)?
After reading this story tonight I decided to call Time Warner to see how much my service fees went up and it went up $10 per month. Because of that they have now lost my business. I will be turning in my cable boxes later this week.
I will keep the high speed internet because they are the best option available in my area for the price. But I will stick to over the air digital TV or nothing at all. Next up, figure out a DVR system that I don't have to pay a subscription for... or just watch TV online.
Your filled with puppies, my girlfriend is filled with kittens, and I am filled with a 20 year scotch and lots of spaghetti (well last night I was for New Years Eve).
Wow Anti Mike, your an idiot. I agree with Jari, she doesn't expect the world to change. She is simply showing what she has learned from her own mistakes.
Nina was showing that by using an exclusive contract in another country she wasn't able to promote her movie as much as she wanted because the distributor that had the contract was unwilling to promote it in all ways best suited for her movie. This unwillingness was because, with the distribution rights locked in, they had no incentive to do anything but the most profitable things for them.
Imagine this, lets say your company hires a marketing firm to promote your business, but that firm has an exclusivity clause that prevents you from using multiple firms. Now all the firm has to do is promote as much as the contract requires, no more and no less. So their only incentive is to fulfill the contract plus anything that will gain them more profit (such as per lead profits from internet leads).
They no incentive to provide good service nor go the extra mile for you. However, if they had to compete to keep your business on a regular basis then they would have to work as hard as possible to keep your company happy and they would have to remain competitive in their pricing.
So "The Anti Mike" stop trolling Techdirt, you are not appreciated.
How is it legal to patent a language construct? WTF? This is the best proof for showing that the patent office ignores the whole prior are clause of patents not to mention common sense.
Ok, its over, a lotta people look pissed. Kill the patent system.
