So what do you call it when people are persecuted for who they are or what they believe and can't generate sufficient counter-speech to defend themselves effectively? Isn't that censorship, too, when you're too scared to express yourself in case you get hammered for it?
I had someone come after me on social media, lie about me, and try to get me fired from my job because they didn't like my opinion about something. Luckily my boss is understanding but I still had to discuss the matter with him in his office and the legal team were involved. Don't you think that could have a chilling effect on my expression?
Bearing that in mind, was it wrong of me to report that account to the platform for harassing me?
Was it censorship on both sides, my side, or the troll's side?
I'm of the opinion that nobody owes you a platform, otherwise you end up having to let neo-nazis march into synagogues, etc.
I don't do the partisan thing. Both sides behave badly. We can argue about the degree if you like but I'm not giving anyone on either side a pass because I agree with them on some issues.
If you're truly on the side of personal responsibility you shouldn't object to Pence disclosing how much taxpayer's money he spent fighting Obama over immigration.
Hence the calls to abolish copyright. If they can't play nicely with their toys, they shouldn't have them.
Is now a good time to remind folks that allowing copyright to be referred to as property has put the ball in the bad guys' court? May I also remind you that referring to experiencing content as "consuming" tends to make people think of copyrighted items as finite property that gets "used up" every time you watch a movie, etc.?
We need to take back the narrative and call out the lies from the maximalists. That there are some property elements in copyright, I must concede, but the whole entire thing is not property at all; if anyone is doing any nicking it's the maximalists from ourselves every time they rob the public domain.
We need to push back, and hard. I recommend taking part in every copyright consultation that comes up and being willing to contact your reps about how absurdly long the terms are. When we stop treating songs, images, and film ideas as property in and of themselves, this madness will come to an end. The only way I can think of to get there is to stop letting everyone else get away with doing that unchallenged. Challenge them.

The people want change. What they're going to get is more of the same with a different label. I predict crash and burn within two years, lame duck after the mid-terms.

It's the privacy of the server, not the location, that's the issue. If they have complete control over the "physical machine" as well as the data, that's what's at issue. Don't split hairs.
sorrykb while that is true it's not the only truth. Sooner or later you'll have to accept that the world is bigger than bedsheet-wearing church-burning freaks and their basement-dwelling inbred cousins.
People wanted change, and when that change kicks in they'll find it's not the change they voted for.
They're also excluding abuse of women, fraud, and crony capitalism. Why stop at racism? It's not the only social sin.
Until we stop demonising Trump voters we're not going to understand why people voted for him. It's not as cut-and-dried as you think.
My personal understanding is that they wanted to upend a system they believed was rigged against them. They understood the right thing in the wrong way; the rigging is not a partisan one and it's not done in a partisan way. In fact, partisanship is just a ploy to divide and conquer and unfortunately they fell for it. It'll flippin' hurt when Trump breaks all the promises he's walking back on right now. Who will they blame then? The Republicans own both houses. When I didn't get it I complained about bias. Now that I do I'll join the other smart people in saying that the only choice Americans have is between Kang and Kodos. There's no meaningful left as such and while Progressives can be noisy they've not got as far as they want to, depending on which state you're in.
The failures are with neoliberalism and Progressives and their liberal agenda is just a distraction. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, the scary-looking smoky guy is talking.
Re: Re: Re: Truth is the Ultimate Defense Against Liable
The publishing of the age is not the problem, it's the discriminatory hiring practices of the casting directors and agents. Deal with that.
Seriously, if it really is the problem that you think it is, go out there and talk to those people. Explain how wrong and hurtful it is and appeal to them to reconsider their position on age.
Anyone who wants to solve a problem needs to identify what it actually is. RE: ageism from employers of any kind, the problem is there, not on websites that publish your age.
It's going to court and it'll all come out in the wash. It's irresponsible to believe someone just because they've pushed an emotional hot button. The Rolling Stone/Jackie Coakley story should have taught us that. Every accusation should remain unpublicised until it has been carefully investigated to determine the facts. If there's a case to answer, bring it to court. Keep all parties anonymous till the case is heard. Is that fair? I call it "due process for all."
The court system should have tossed the Hogan case out but didn't. Whether you believe it served them right that they were totally destroyed or not, the fact is you can't rely on the court system to uphold our rights. Too damn often, they do the opposite. *Cough*FISA*Cough cough*rubber stamp*
