I think your maths is backwards. Doesn't matter how many torrented it - they could have anyway since it had already been shared. This was 3000 sales (nearly 9000 dollars) for doing very very little except be nice. A salutary lesson for the **AAs and their shills.
I suspect most starting indie developers would be more than happy with 3000 sales from one event, and the potential of 60,000 more people interested in future work.
Also, unlike many Streisand Effect stories, this one is one where, attention or no, the Royals feel the need to make a point. Firstly, Prince William feels strongly about paparazzi after they were complicit (he feels) in the death of his mother, Diana. Secondly, the Prince and Princess were on private land, where a serious telephoto lens was used, which potenially under the strict French laws is a serious breach of privacy. I suspect that especially after the recent Harry incident they are aware of the risk of 'publicising' things, but it was hardly much of a secret in Europe, whereas there are still issues over whether the press can justify showing stuff like this.
It seems like this is one of those cases where making a 'stand' is considered to be worth the risk of increased publicity - and it's not like Princess Catherine is exactly a low-profile figure to start with.
"The wife of that obnoxious, greasy little worm Sarkozy is married to someone in the entertainment industry"
Are you saying that Sarkozy is in the entertainment industry? Or Carla Bruni is a bigamist? Certainly, the first one is quite plausible, given how risble Sarkozy is/was.
I have to agree with Rikuo. Although in the UK you can have a limited amount of alcohol and drive legally, I just won't - I don't consider it either moral or sensible. I also avoid drinking a lot because I don't fancy the hangovers. Sometimes, both these reasons co-incide.
Kind of on a par with the idiots who passed useless, draconian legislation on the back of this tragedy, all the while calling anyone who didn't agree 100% "un-American" and "not patriotic".
The definitive work about the Voyager record is "Murmurs of Earth" by Executive Director, Carl Sagan, Technical Director, Frank Drake, Creative Director, Ann Druyan, Producer, Timothy Ferris, Designer, Jon Lomberg, and Greetings Organizer, Linda Salzman. Basically, this book is the story behind the creation of the record, and includes a full list of everything on the record. "Murmurs of Earth", originally published in 1978, was reissued in 1992 by Warner News Media with a CD-ROM that replicates the Voyager record. Unfortunately, this book is now out of print, but it is worth the effort to try and find a used copy or browse through a library copy.
Oh look, a priceless, unique record of Earth culture, and it's out-of-print...
BTW, in case you hadn't noticed, Mr I-have-no-sense-of-humour-(or-humor), the point of that parody was to show the ridiculousness of the viewpoint that 'gates' are somehow 'holy' or 'necessary'. Or that people won't learn how to climb over them.
Although to be fair, rather than having the weakness of 'people intruding on private land' the metaphor would have worked better with a gatekeeper who had used to have a wall and gate in the middle of common ground, and now people have found a way to climb the gate - or the wall has fallen down in large areas, but the gatekeeper is still expecting people to pay the toll for his gate.
This, of course, is a gatekeeper who keeps trying to enclose more and more ocmmon ground for longer and longer periods...
