It's what happens when you let the echo chamber mentality take over political discourse — you can never tell who's going to be running it — or to what end.
As it is, the Far Right have managed to convince enough people that what they believe is conservatism that a lot of people now believe this, which makes rational conversations difficult, if not impossible. Result: your echo chamber v my echo chamber. It's classic divide-and-conquer strategy and t'other side is doing it too.
The trick is not to get stuck in the echo chambers in the first place.
On behalf of all decent people everywhere, thank you, PaulT. I get fed up with seeing whole groups of people routinely demonised. It's good to see someone pushing back.
You may have noticed that the illegal immigration problem got worse after NAFTA drove a lot of people out of work over there. That, plus the War on Drugs and interference in South American countries' politics is driving people northwards for a better life.
That's not a new thing. Remember when Palin was McCain's pick for Veep? If he'd won, then popped his clogs, the self-proclaimed hockey mom would have been the president.
Jill Stein has been running (unsuccessfully) for president since 2012.
No one knows why any individual actually commits suicide.
To make __________ stop. The "suicide as revenge" trope you've brought up here is about running out of reasons to live, so you're taking the ______________ with you.
I'm fascinated by the subject and I've asked a lot of people who were either suicidal or who know suicidal people about their experiences. That is what they told me.
George Wallace Barry Goldwater Southern Strategy Powell Memorandum Project for a New American Century
The dog whistling and tribalism date from Wallace and Goldwater, were perfected in the Southern Strategy and were the basis of the Powell Memorandum and the Project. Neoliberalism emerged from the Memorandum and were perfected in the application of the principles expounded in the Project. This is the basis of the corporate rights movements we're seeing today.
Result: states' rights, sovereign citizens, hatred of government on principle, corporate sovereignty, expecting the market to resolve social problems, abandonment of traditional family and community values for enforced choice between alt-right and liberal tribalism...
It's not time that changes them, it's attitudes. And attitudes are shaped by influential thought leaders, most of whom play to the gallery to get attention — and the votes they need to implement their policies. Basically, we need to be more considerate of the galleries we play to.
We've been told at work on our official copyright policy that copyright is an intellectual property right designed to allow the author/creator of a work to control its use.
No doubt this unfortunate fellow has been told the same thing. If his lawyers are feeding him the same line, no wonder he believes it. Everybody else (who doesn't follow IPR news) does. Whatever certainly does.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: That is awesomely funny...and sad
I've had people on the left/liberal side batter me because I wouldn't accept their point of view without question.
Each side appears to have its own dog whistles; it's as if they're mirroring each other, divvying up the populace between them and forcing people who won't sign up to pick a side in case the other guy gets in.
This post couldn't look more dodgy if it tried. One presumes you've got a bridge to sell us, you're a Nigerian astronaut stuck on a space station, or you're selling real estate on the Moon as a sideline.
That's the thing I love most about this site: it's not an echo chamber. I won't call out particular writers but regulars know which ones tend to lean left and Progressive and the ones who lean right, Conservative and Libertarian. There's a healthy mix of opinions, which is HOW this site avoids a partisan bias.
This neatly explains what's going on with Pam Geller: it's got so stifling in the toxic environment of her echo chamber, she's just got to get out and pollute elsewhere. I have wondered why these people don't just stay beneath their bridges where they belong. Now I know.

That is profoundly undemocratic.

Okay, if both of those statements are true you've got two partisan channels. Other channels exist.
