Has Google ever used your data for nefarious reasons? "Oh no, now Google knows I'm looking to buy some fertilizer or taking a flight to Cuba." Who would you prefer to have that info? Google will just try and sell you fertilizer and flights. The government will try and put you in jail.
Why just "Samsung Galaxy" devices? This seems odd. What about other phones, like the Google Nexus? There are people, like me, who don't like the stupid skins Samsung put on Android, one reason being it takes forever for updates. I finally sold my Note because of the huge delay in getting Jellybean. I'll only ever buy pure Google phones now.
None of those things you mention is directly the fault of corporations. Monopolies only exist when governments grant them, in most cases. And there is only regulatory capture when the regulators are powerful enough to crush competition.
You meant to say the Crony States of America. The solution is less monopolies, less patents, less copyright, less regulation in general.
This is very ironic, given police forces everywhere have actually been criticized for using tasers on people. Civil liberty groups have actually called for a moratorium on tasers after incidences like the death of Robert Dziekański.
They can't have it both ways, because there will always be drunk/high/crazed individuals and we need a way of subduing them. Personally, I'd prefer a taser to a baton.
Are you saying that a tax rate of 94% is "forcing the bankers to pay for their mistakes"? Forcing bankers to pay for their mistakes would be to let them fail. Not bail them out and then bitch that they are making too much.
But I'm not sure where your quotes end and commentary begins.
The obvious solution to a system with regulatory capture is LESS REGULATION and smaller government. If the government didn't bail out the bad banks, we would have had severe short term pain, but we'd be out of the woods now. Instead, we have been limping along while the fed dump insane amounts of money into the system trying to shock it to life. All it is accomplishing is a stock bubble.
Speaking of rating agencies, the government made it mandatory that the SELLERS have their crap rated. How does this make sense? If you are buying a house, to you believe the SELLERS home inspector? No, the government messing with the system, then bailing it out is a huge contributor to the problem.
By the way, corporations love regulation. Why do you think no one was charged in the 2008 meltdown? Because all the regulations were followed.
Trademarks are not about protectionism, but about protecting consumers. There is not much wrong with trademark laws.
Patents/copyrights are totally messed up and are grinding the technology industry to a halt, and justifying massive spying on individuals. They should be curtailed or sh!tcanned altogether.
I'm clarifying because they tend to get lumped together and are not the same.
What are you talking about? "Sorry about being in pain." Are you kidding me?! Have you ever lived with chronic pain?
All those problems--B&E's, pharmacy holdups, etc.--are caused BECAUSE these drugs are so hard to get ahold of. Do you think people are committing suicide using oxy? No, they die because the drug is so hard to get ahold of and expensive, they need to try crazy ways to increase the efficacy of the pills they have. If oxy was cheaper, they wouldn't be dying. Were you asleep during the crack and heroin epidemics?
The reality is these drugs are excellent at managing pain, but also are very addictive PRECISELY because they are so good at masking pain. If doctors stopped fearing addiction, but actually discussed it rationally, we could lessen the problems. Did you see Trainspotting? There is a way to deal with withdrawal. Pretending it doesn't exist isn't it.
I've had major surgery a few times, and each time I left the hospital an unwilling morphine addict. Did a doctor ever once tell me how to deal with the horrific withdrawal symptoms? NEVER! I had surgery as recent as 5 years ago and not a peep. If doctors and pharmacists would pull their heads out of their collective asses and talk openly about addition, we could mitigate the risk of it, and keep these effective drugs.
Did anyone go read the actually read the bill? It says the exact opposite. Of course, if my business has a Facebook account, it is still legal for my boss to check what I'm posting on it. That only makes sense. I'll post it below so all this ridiculous speculation and gnashing of teeth can end.
b)(1) It shall be unlawful for any employer to request or require any employee or prospective employee to provide any user name and password, password, or other means of authentication to gain access to the employee's or prospective employee's personal internet account.
...however, that while engaging in such [lawful internet] monitoring, an employer may not request or require any employee or prospective employee to access the employee's or prospective employee's personal internet account for purposes of enabling the employer to observe activity in or the contents of such an account; and provided further that an employer undertaking such monitoring may not request or require any employee or prospective employee to provide any user name and password, password, or other means of authentication to gain access to the employee's or prospective employee's personal internet account.
The only reason Wolverine Origins make $80MM opening weekend is because of the workprint leak. That movie is crap. I watched the work print and went out to see the movie just to see how they added the special effects. If I hadn't seen the work print, I would have stayed away due to the reviews.
The government is responsible for more monopolies than could possible be created by the market. As long as monopolies are non-coercive, I'm all for them. Google is the search leader because it offers a good product. Your cable bill is high because the government deemed it "more efficient" to have one provider of TV.
I don't think content creators understand the level of hatred they've built up over the years. We didn't have the power to fight back before, so we just took it and overpaid for everything. Now, they are scared sh!tless and hiding behinds dad's pant leg.
If there are no left wing parties, why are unions so powerful? Go check how much of your municipal budget goes to paying pensions, and how much underfunded those pensions are.
There are actually two axis for government, Left-Right, and Big-Small. Republicans are just as big governments as Democrats.
Governments shouldn't be bailing out corporations; that is crony capitalism. States should be pro-market, not pro-business.
You act like you don't know the 1%. Have you ever been to a doctor? Most rich people don't lie in piles of money laughing. They try and build a product people want. And we pay them for it. If you don't like the millions CEO's receive, don't buy their stuff, don't bank at their banks, don't eat at their restaurants, and don't shop at their stores. This is more democracy than you'll ever see in your lifetime.
I'd rather have these things regulated poorly by the market than regulated idiotically by the government. We are in this situation exactly because we give so much power to government, who then enact laws against us.
You say unregulated like its a bad thing. Corporations love regulation. Its what keeps competitors out of the market.
