Or is Wikleaks a new site doing something similar to Wikileaks? ;-)
(Theck the title!)
After all this time with Wikileaks being in full attention of the whole world, it appears as if some editors have fallen asleep, wikileaks-tired...
There's a huge drawback, though! While Wikileaks might get more attention this way, they might still have to shut down their operations, simply because they need the money! The Wikileaks sites eat up a lot of bandwidth because of the amount of data plus the huge amount of visitors. Wikileaks needs to pay it's bills and those bills are high. And there aren't many providers willing to host the Wikileaks site for free, for a long time.
Once they can't pay the bill, they will be unable to keep the site up in a normal way. They would need to rely upon many mirror sites, which makes updates to the site a bit more difficult, since all mirrors need to be updated too. It might not stop Wikileaks, but it makes it harder for the leaks to go around...
WikiLeaks is still available through it's IP address: http://46.59.1.2/
They might kill the domain name, but taking down that server is a completely different challenge...
I did some investigations and discovered that you can get a list of domains that were seized through RobTex: http://www.robtex.com/ip/74.208.15.160.html
All these sites now seem to lead to 74-208-15-160.sinkhole.shadowserver.org and thus to shadowserver.org. Now I cannot help but wonder who or what this shadowserver.org organisation is. Who are they? Why are they apparently hosting this page? What is their part in this whole case?
I also think they only seized domain names that were registered with an US registrar, not any foreign registrars.
It is however an interesting list of sites to see. They all seem to be related to sites supporting copyright violations in some way...
I wonder... Say, I go eat there and the dinner costs a recommended $21. If I have a $20 and a $10 bill, I have three options:
1) Pay $20
2) Pay $30
3) Pay something in-between and ask change back.
Since some people don't like loose change they could decide to have the amount rounded up or down to an amount that's a multiple of paper bills. And if it was a good dinner, people are inclined to pay at least a small tip, thus rounding up.
I know it's bizarre. But it's the context of the nudity. If it's artistically done then less people will object. But Playboy is an erotic magazine, even though some guys consider the pictorials to be artistic...
Actually, it does harm her career, since some modelling agencies won't want to hire models who've appeared nude in playboy magazine or similar magazines. The reputation of a model is very important in the modelling world. The playboy-article just destroyed her reputation as the "innocent girl next door" image, because Playboy is associated with erotics, not fashion.
It's not my opinion. It's her argument! Vogue is a fashion magazine, mostly meant for women. Playboy is about all things that men are interested in and is more an erotic/softcore magazine.
Actually, while Lara did pose nude for some photographer, the pictures were never meant to be used in Playboy magazine. She posed for the Pirelli calendar and several similar artistic photo collections but Playboy is a (softcore) porn magazine. And she doesn't want to be associated with such magazines simply because it hurts her career in the modelling world.
These photo's were made by Greg Lotus (http://greglotus.com) and were probably meant to be published in Vogue magazine. The pictures were made somewhen in november or december of 2009.
And apparently she can dictate the conditions of when and where they can be published.
First the Streisant effect, now the Titanic effect! The site just went down! Probably because they had too many visitors and thus hit the virtual iceberg of bandwidth overload. :-)
This site is now falling for the Streisant effect and considering the type of site that it is, it might just be exactly what they wanted! HOAX! Don't fall for it! Just wait until they actually start to take legal steps, then report about it. Because now, you're just helping the site to become more popular.
I really think TechDirt has just fallen for some hoax... GREAT! :-)
Increadible! I just bought the comic too, now it has been here and after viewing it's artwork at 4chan! :-) Yeah, if the product looks good, it's an additional boost to sales...
Well, the way to use a huge sledgehammer to track a nut is by putting the sledgehammer on the ground, then hit it with the nut until one of them breaks...
But I doubt if the recipients of these notices will be hitting the sledgehammer...
Well, I bought the book in January, but started to read during the summer holidays. When I was nearly finished, it was Juli. When returning to the shop, asking for the last 20 pages, they told me it was my fault that those pages were missing. The book had some travel-damage so they claimed it was my fault those pages were missing. (Even though no traces of ripped-out pages were visible.) So they refused to replace the book. Since the book was only EUR 7.50, I couldn't be bothered to just continue my claim and just bought a new one.
I bought a real book once. Not wanting to peek at how it would end, I started reading the first 340 pages of the book. It was supposed to have 360 pages, though. During print, they had accidentally left out the last 20 pages...
Had to return to the bookstore where I had to buy a second copy, this time checking if the last 20 pages were indeed in it.
So, I was locked out of the last 20 pages of a real book I've purchased... ;-)
Maybe. :-) Then again, it would be a very interesting idea. I can imagine how they would introduce her. IIt starts with the old Stig racing in some bad car. A bazooka becomes visible, in the hand of someone in red. The bazooka shoots and hits the car with Stig in it. BOOM! Flames, explosions, smoke and end of old Stig. Focus on the woman in red, she turns out to be Red Stig, and she forcefully takes over the job of old Stig. :-)
Besides, it doesn't have to be a real woman. A blonde wig and two big oranges located at the right place and poof! Instant she-Stig. Would also make it much harder to guess her (his) real identity...
