Remember the good ol' days of OTA, that weren't good at all, because your roof mounted antenna couldn't get a good signal? And after falling off the roof a couple of times you decided to join the community access television association that provided clear OTA TV from a centralized antenna via a cable network.?
What ever became of that association whose mission it was to fix the technological issues of radio signal and help the masses with their television reception?
It's my understanding that that association was formed specifically to help its customers and wasn't going to be about big corporate profits.
I like to make comments, because in doing so I hope to offer some pithy insight. But even if insight alludes me there's a good possibility that someone will offer up a perspective that I hadn't thought of or had forgotten. And in doing a more holistic view of the topic is served to the global community.
I've worked as a public servant and seen time and time again how the government will make an issue out of some event and use it to pass legislation that will in the end be bad for the general public.
The image I imagine is of some power hungry bureaucrats sitting around a table and one dude is greedily rubbing his hands together and with a sly look says, "This SPE hack is just the catalyst we need to pass our ____ legislation."
Fill in the blank with PIPA, SOPA, government drone, or any other intrusive government legislative action.
"For the people" has often meant, "Sticking it to the man." (Who ever that might be.) Eventually the innovator, becomes the perpetrator, because they eventually find out a thing of passion becomes stale when it don't pay the bills.
The Paranoid Have Claimed Backdoors to MS' Software for Years
Who would be surprised to learn that Microsoft is in collusion with U.S. and British security agencies. Is it any wonder then that German communities and China are looking for Windows alternatives?
It is a fine argument to say that MS wants to appeal to US and UK economies, but what about the economies of the rest of the world? Losing China is a huge financial hit, but maybe MS will pull a Ford Motor Company ploy and buy China tech companies.
This Encryption Arms Race Needs a Change of Tactics
As was recently reported in PCWorld Microsofts top legal counsel is calling this an encryption arms race.
I suggest we take a page out of the spook agencies' handbook and be more aware of who is looking at whom.
The technology to do this readily available and in place, but the funding needed may prevent anything like this from happening.
My vision is to create a system by which standardized honeypots are located in the DMZ of routers and the firmware of mobile devices and then report to a community monitored database that shows who is looking at home in real time.
Using projects like Tomato and DD-WRT and Cyanogenmod to develop an open source honeypot project with standard updates to stay on top of the latest attacks and then each device reporting to a centralized public domain database showing aggregate data that highlights the type of attack and the targets of the attack.
Just another example of the old issue of once being assumed to be guilty will be assumed to be guilty by the ignorant.
I hope that none of the commenters here get put in the position where CPS does a home study, but if they do they'll know what it's like to always be assumed to be a child abuser.

Anyone know what happened to that idea?
