He would have no part of it. Tepp's dishonesty won't hold to the scrutiny of someone that did ask him tough questions.
It's similar to one AC here who constantly mimes about how piracy is killing industry and yet is proven wrong on multiple occasions when you look at the evidence against it.
Yes, consistent with the First Amendment people should be absolutely free to advocate and actively assist in the commission of crimes and other acts in violation of our laws
Piracy isn't a crime unless you count all of the rappers that "stole" samples of music along with all of the DJs that freely expressed themselves by mixing music without permission.
Or how about the fact that the copyright industries continue to make money despite piracy? Maybe since the old content industry has plenty of money in their distribution channels they can use a few extra dollars to provide legal alternatives.
Obviously, if you want to talk about bad laws, perhaps a look at the civil rights movement is pertinent to this conversation. So tell me, where do you stand on Brown v. The Board of Education? Jim Crow? Obviously since it was the law of the land, Jim Crow should stay on the record books even though it's a violation of the 1st Amendment to use the state to suppress someone's speech.
Or maybe you believe the governmental pressure on Wikileaks was a good thing, given they took away their power to publish.
I never understood why people think piracy is some crime that can be eliminated by just making more laws. Sad.
Obama's presidency is marred by an increased abuse of governmental power to protect a small group of people over the needs of the US.
Look at ---
--- his actions on Gitmo.
--- the punitive punishment of Bradley Manning
--- the soft banning of Wikileaks
--- Joe Biden's stance on IP.
--- the deportation of 400K immigrants through Secure Communities.
--- the furthering of Bush policies.
I don't know where you think Obama is passing a "liberal" agenda, but none of his actions actually match up to what progressives nor those centered around civil rights would necessarily call "democratic principles"
Re: Re: Re: I would love to see Google ignore this
Oh, Teddy was badass alright. He's the only one to face a machine gun up on a hill with just a sword (let's ignore WWII for a second...) as well as muscle his way through polio, a crippling disease for his time.
But Andrew Jackson had the first pleasure of a man to try to assassinate him, to which he beat the guy repeatedly with his cane. His aides had to stop him from killing the man.
Your clueless ignorance on free speech concerns in copyright are an insult to civil rights in the digital era. Your advocation for items such as SOPA/PIPA to give control to businesses over peopledirectly contradicts the ideals of free speech advocates who fought and died protesting censorship based on allegations of wrongdoing over actual facts of economic prosperity.
Bob, how clueless can you be in promoting this idea that this blog supports companies which are, only in your mind, too big to fail? People have pointed this out numerous times and yet you have shown evidence of your conspiracy theories.
"I think it was Teddy Roosevelt who once disagreed with Supreme Court decision and basically told them to just try and enforce it. I might have them wrong, but its still an amusing anecdote."
Andrew Jackson. The Supreme Court claimed fighting Indians was unconstitional (I could be wrong?) but he said to them "You said it was unconstitutional, let's see you enforce it."
Oddly enough, his policies worked and he's considered a badass to everyone that is not Native American...
To be fair, I'm really paying attention to 2010 for their profits. All of the industries have been doing rather well despite piracy. If I were to pull individuals out of each category, I could show how more movies are being created outside the current studio system, more artists are finding their audience, and games are being made for free on the PC despite piracy.
The entire point is to question how even if piracy were stopped in some way, how much extra money would these studios really make? Somehow, I doubt it would be much.
It is possible to believe that more copyright enforcement is necessary but also believe that SOPA is the wrong way of going about it.
But here's the million dollar question... When has any of the the copyright enforcement been necessary?
We can see the results of clueless judges all over the place. From the looks of it, the more that copyright is enforced, the less likely that litigation is the answer to anyone's problems.
Currently, the music industry is making $67.6 billion dollars this year. The US alone is $26.5 billion.
Movies are currently at $10.11 billion or 10.6 considering your resource. Notice how the numbers for foreign movies is even MORE money based on a weak dollar.
Last I checked, the games industry is predicted to be at $74 billion by the end of next year. But just for 2010, the game industry made $60.4 billion
Now, look at these numbers. Look at the GDP of the US. How the hell is piracy affecting those numbers where a company can't survive?
Yep, along with the rest of the internet that agrees with him. Looks like the problems of SOPA and PIPA are being discussed and exposed through social media sites.
And here's the messed up part. ICE is looking to make the properties they've seized pay them to release the properties. It's the exact same concept as the drug war with police or the apportionment money that ICE is getting from Congress to deport 400K illegals every year. Their policies and procedures are money grabs.
Ok, I thought I wouldn't have to but how much ridiculousness do we have to go through every month until someone realizes WTF is up with our government?
We have the FBI overstating their own importance with their bomb plots.
We have the EPA showing how a lie can destroy someone's livelihood.
And ICE has been the police for the MPAA and RIAA for quite some time. Obviously, what does it take to get a fair trial and a chance to plead your case when the federal government are the crooks? They bend the law five ways from Sunday and the damage of what they do devastates all of their targets. You're left with little money to defend yourself and a sense that justice was not carried out. And for what purpose? So ICE can think that they can continue this same process and procedure to destroy people's lives to save Hollywood? #areyouseriousbro?
Wait... ICE has to sell forfeited property? So ICE has given themselves the right to abuse copyright law, to make more money through asset forfeiture which is a proven scam to make police officials money?
While no one would disagree that shutting down rogue websites selling illegal items is a worthy cause, SOPA and PIPA go too far.
I do disagree. I believe the DMCA is more than enough. This entire idea of a rogue website is the same as the vague notion of fighting terrorism. It's a boogeyman meant to conjure up an image of the worst imaginable fear and enforce it on a person as the ultimate in FUD.
Ask the Senators what rogue websites are being fought and I can guarantee the answer back would be something akin to The Pirate Bay. Ask again and you get a Canadian website that is selling cheaper drugs. The boogeymen are endless in the name of halting knowledge and learning.
I know that you're an advocate and have to say you want to shut down rogue websites, but enough is enough. Ask someone to define a rogue website and why it's bad. I've seen nothing that is entirely convincing about rogue websites needing to be shut down. It's why I believe the answer will never be in legislation.
Please, Rx, understand that the definitions do go to far. This legislation and this path goes too far. There should not be legislation to determine who can use rent seeking by lobbying to Congress for their bills. You can't shut down rogue websites without scooping up legal websites and both bills should be scrapped. We should repeal the Patriot Act as well as the DMCA and allow the entitlement industries to work in the free market system instead of the copyright welfare system. Just my opinion that what you would like matches strongly with what people would enjoy: cheaper medicines, more choices, less governmental control over product to ensure longer lives of your constituents.
