Re: Self-inflicted injury and putting themselves at risk
IIRC, about 35 years ago, CT was one of the first to go over to the searingly bright strobes, and there was a lot of public outcry over them blinding drivers.
BTW, a cigarette is visible five miles away at night on a ship.
But if "intent" is to be the basis, if the shooter streamed it to his imam and the imam posted it to Facebook "in protest" because "not all muslims are like this", it'd be ok by you?
Helluva way for a family to be notified their kid or parent was killed - live streamed on Facebook...
Pshaw. All you need to do is look at the raw data, which is pretty blunt - 10% rise in cop deaths between 2017 and 2018.
Alternatively, you could look at the raw numbers "across multiple interrupted time-series estimation techniques" and come up with a different answer.
Of course, if you select the "correct" intervals to lose when you "interrupt", you can also use this method to prove that slavery never existed in the US or that Tasmania has the most honest government on the planet.
Just out of curiosity (I'm not going to search it), do you happen to know the raw numbers of on the job deaths of garbage collectors in '17 and '18?
People use the caps on Constitution without thinking about what the word means - it's a list of items describing what constitutes what it is describing.
The Constitution is simply a list of what the government it was forming MUST do.
The Bill of Rights, the first ten Amendments to the Must Do list are items the newly formed government must NOT do.
The problem comes in when you start "interpreting" the clearly-worded document to mean what you want it to mean.
The difference between a Conservative Justice and a Liberal Justice has nothing to do with right/left politics.
A Conservative starts with The Constitution, then works through case law to make a determination.
A Liberal starts with the resolution they want and works backwards to try and warp the Constitution to allow it.
Ban posting of videos showing actual killings and there's no "ethical tangle".
And the whole some may have posted it in protest over the killing is ludicrous as well. Chop the audio and any "commentary" from the vid and it's the same damned thing - someone dying.
Doesn't matter if it's a black guy being shot by a cop or a white child being raped to death by black muslims.
It's a killing. "Intent" of the poster has zero bearing.
The inverse applies as well. I know people, myself included, who watch ten minutes of a horrible hat-cam and realize that it's just a terrible movie, delete the file, and never consider it again, much less spending money to watch the whole thing.
It's the impulsive "gotta have it NOW!" mentality.
Going to a movie was a rarity when I was a kid. New James Bond movie announced, we waited six months for it to be on WPIX OTA TV.
Theaters were generally reserved for dating. On the first date you watched the movie, on subsequent dates you couldn't recall the title of the move you just "saw"...
So a Jaguar or Bently ad showing the car driving past Buckingham Palace means they owe royalties to the Queen?
ANY car ad showing the Brooklyn or Golden Gate Bridge in the background owes royalties to NY or CA?
Hey, MY car was in an ad for my town a few years back - it was parked in front of my office, and you can even read the license plate number in the advert. Does the town owe ME royalty money?

Re: Re: Re: Not comparable
That's my point. Not that there's a war on cops or not, nor how dangerous being a garbage collector is.
Not just blatant manipulation of the data, but bragging about how their manipulation isn't, it's a special "technique".
You can prove anything if you're permitted to massage the data statistically.

When you see something like the above, you should know it's time to put on your hip waders and pick up a shovel.
It doesn't matter what is being "measured", or if you agree or disagree with the conclusion.
