It might be part of the problem: without an body of what Canadians call 'sober second thought', the Kiwi government has no backstop to prevent it from going completely stupid.
Also: there's a minimum number of countries which, if it's met, puts the TPP in effect for the other countries, even if they didn't agree to the agreement. From the Wiki page: ".. it will enter into force after ratification by at least 6 states which together have a GDP of more than 85% of the GDP of all signatories."
Years ago, I remember reading a study that found that, if you performed life-extending exercise regularly, your lifespan would be extended by roughly the amount of time you spent exercising. The authors reported the findings are somewhat disheartening.
So if you do exercise, so something you'll enjoy doing.
..why don't governments? (Look, I know why, but humour me, here.)
Government Ministers/Secretaries of Trade should fund the ISDS bodies then issue Dumbledore-style warnings to the CEOs of the type: "None Shall Pass! We have a building full of salaried lawyers who will bleed you dry."
Often, when I come across a person who's arguing for or is only aware of the 'usual' way to peel bananas (usually they're complaining about how difficult it is, how they need to use a knife, etc, etc), I like to point them to one of many Youtube videos that show how chimpanzees peel bananas.
Google it yourself. It just might change your life. Or not.
The car/driver changing lanes is supposed to ensure that a lane change can be safely performed, including making sure that there's enough room. The lane-changer cannot assume that the other driver has seen them; that driver could be be keeping an eye one some other concern that the lane-changer can't see, say in the other lane.
Not to mention, that in some jurisdictions (Québec, to name one), buses always have priority, even when they're pulling into your lane. Vous avez été avertis.
In cases of corporate malfeasance, it's been shown over and over, that most fines are simply considered as the cost of doing business. Putting managers in jail, on the other hand, DOES get their attention.
I'm quite confident that when FBI agents and their bosses start spending a month or two in jail (especially without pay) for disobeying a court order, their cavalier attitude will change.

New Zealand has a unitary government.
