I would be shocked if the vast majority financial institutions weren't in a more or less constant state of investigation.
"And this is Tom, he's investigating... well... everybody, all the time. That way if anything ever comes up, we can honestly say we were investigating before hand."
*Tom stops playing Angry Birds for three seconds* "and the benefits are great too!"
I think you may be misunderstanding a few things.
First: nobody ever said all patents were bad. The common theme, I believe, is that overly broad, ridiculous, or patents on things the rights holder has no intention of producing are bad.
Second: Google doesn't short people what they are owed because they bought something. The say .5c per click or whatever it is and that's what you get, -not- oh we bought motorola this week you only get .05c per click now.
Third: When referring to the iron/carbon alloy, steel is the proper spelling.
I could see how asking a question could be defamation.
Say you own Restaurant A. Two blocks away is Restaurant B, and they serve the same types of things you do. You take out a half page ad in every local newspaper you can find that says: "Have you developed a rash or open sores around your mouth after eating at Restaurant B? If so contact Finklstein, Smith + partners at 555-1234. Large class action settlement may occur."
I remember one time when I was pulled aside by a math teacher after class, for not showing my work on a test - she had thought I had cheated. I had to retake the test (she literally cut and pasted the problems into a different order and photocopied it lol) in an empty room. After acing it again, we had a discussion that went something like "why don't you show your work? - I do on the problems that need it, like this one - but thats the only one - ... - you need to show your work so you understand the process for harder problems - (eyes light up) can you just give me the harder problems? - I don't have any" we worked out later that as long as I wasn't obvious about it, I could do whatever I wanted during class. I was able to get a similar arrangement in a bunch of classes through most of my middle/high school years. Seems like a cool story but I firmly believe that my lack of challenge in school is why I have a hard time getting and staying motivated now, because most things seem easy I tend to take the easiest way out. The system was broken, and I have no doubts it still is.
Re: Re: Re: No universal agreement on educationl methods
I call bs here. When you get pushed a grade or two for a single subject, you become socially ostracized (you think you're better than me/us huh?) among your own peers, and those in your "advanced class" which is really just the normal class you would have taken later anyway.
Let's put it in terms most can understand. How do you feel when your boss is younger than you?
I don't see a difference between this and the videos on youtube showing how to pop a master lock with a coke can and some tin snips. The information should be unregulated - the asshole breaking into lockers should be punished.
I worked legit t-shirt vending at shows as a side gig a few years back. We were given instructions that went something like this, presumably they were cleared with the higher-ups.
On our sweeps of the parking lot before and during the show, if we spotted anyone else selling t-shirts or other merch we were to grab a couple of security guys and confiscate their stuff. If they didn't put up too much fuss we didn't need to bother calling the police. Then we sold their shirts at our stall if they were decent quality.
Remember this is a legit business working 10,000+ capacity shows and their policy is to steal and profit from illegal merch.
So anyway: 10yrs in jail seems a little excessive to me.
I've never understood "you can't go faster than light" Say you create a ship that can go -almost- as fast as light. then walk forward.
Or a bullet train with a racecar in it moving forward, and you move from the back seat to the front seat. except bigger with more steps and in a vacuum.
Nope, I'm copyrighting t-shirts and jeans - prior art be damned. Maybe I can wring some lucrative settlements out of the big players before before they realize what happened in the glut of coming lawsuits.
And just to show my heart is in the right place, I'll start buying t.v. seasons and movies again once I'm absurdly rich ;)

How many violations are to many ?
Is there a cap on the amount of times you can falsely imprison people for murder?
How many blatantly wrong arrest warrents for murder are too many ?
How many traffic camera tickets are too many ?
How many people falsely accused of speeding is acceptable ?
If you have reached the cap on bad speeding tickets do you have to let everyone else go ?
Does "charlie" have a second name ?
How many times that Tim shares thoughts about patents, DCMA, copyright, and people buying legal music for free are TOO MANY ?
How many unlawful DCMA takedowns are ENOUGH ?
