Teslas are supposedly so advanced, yet their ironically-named "Autopilot" can't detect stationary objects? The assist system in my Ford Escape has no problem detecting stationary objects, or people, or dogs. It has stopped for those objects numerous times in my use.
Oddly enough, though, my Ford Escape with cameras and radar can and does see non-moving objects in the roadway just fine and slows/stops accordingly. It isn't advertised or referred to as Full Self Driving but simply an "assist", which it is. Yet in thousands of miles of using it to drive across the country several times, it hasn't hit a stopped vehicle or a pedestrian, or even come close to doing so. Funny that.
Southwest began service to Palm Springs. They've added nonstop flights between Palm Springs and Las Vegas. We wanted to have a long weekend in Vegas and thought we'd enjoy the quick flights. However, the cheapest flights on Southwest, for a flight that is less than 1 hour, is $500 round trip per person. It's only a 4 hour drive, which is likely just a few minutes more than what the flight would end up requiring once you consider Lyft to the airport, security, waiting, taxiing, flying, etc.
So, we're just going to drive to Vegas and enjoy the savings.
Where my parents live, in rural south Virginia (Blue Ridge Mountains), the only internet service they have available is CenturyLink DSL that maxes out at 1.5Mbps/256Kbps. That's when it actually works. Most of the time it is down, or the speeds are so slow as to make even email or web browsing impossible. They tried to get StarLink but were told that due to the hills and trees, there wasn't a good enough line-of-sight to the satellites to make it feasible. To use StarLink they'd need to move to a more treeless and flatter locale. So, how much of the country does that negate from using Starlink?
I've loved visiting and living in China and Hong Kong. But, no more. I cannot stomach what the CCP has done to both places. The best thing that could happen is Western businesses completely abandon Hong Kong and China. Starve the beast! But, no, companies like Apple will always bend over and say, "Take me, Xi!" as long as they get to sell their wares there.
Someone in the Muslim community should begin filming HER. Every step she takes outside her home should be posted on a "blog". And as someone else pointed out, get a parabolic mic and record these "mumblings" of hers and post them, too. Fire with fire.
The more oversight and light shown on these cops, the better for everyone else. How about a law to make their unions liable? How about a law to make suing them as individuals and attacking their pensions possible, instead of causing taxpayers to fund their misdeeds.
The first thing we do is cripple AT&T and Comcast...
Until the "incumbent" ISPs are decisively dealt with permanently, nothing will ever be accomplished to make things better for everyone. AT&T needs to be broken up yet again, so does Comcast and Spectrum. And this time make it so they can't rise back up to threaten us again.
This incident might come across as Twitter being overreactive, but it is just a piece of the bigger picture. Twitter is taking sides in India and is decidedly backing the Modi government to silence opposition. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-58196793
I have nothing against the Israeli people except for the fact that they keep voting for extremist politicians who are running a South African-style Apartheid government. The government of Israel is sh*t, criticism of the government is NOT "anti-Semitic". Their claims that any criticism is "anti-Semitic" is absurd. The gov't of Israel needs a major smackdown from the rest of the civilized world. They've been allowed to metastasize like a cancer for far too long.
... will be $billions going to incumbent ISPs with nothing to show for it other than stock buybacks, shareholder dividends, and CEO compensation increases.
Note, I have nothing against the average Israeli citizen, other than they keep voting for fascist tyrants. But, the Israeli government and their quasi-Apartheid social structure needs a serious slap-down from the rest of the world.
