"Because they're not causing the same degree of societal harm."
You don't think banking, broadband and energy monopolies cause significant societal harm? Nobody ever lost their home or froze to death because of Facebook!
It seemed pretty clear from the context that this was not referring to government funding. If you're even slightly familiar with the topic of how funding for journalism is drying up, you'd know that direct government funding is barely even mentioned.
I thought this was pretty well understood at this point. I've read a few articles and watched a few news pieces that have pretty much come to the conclusion above. I figured that's why they've gone quiet recently.
"There's nothing especially wrong with Facebook..."
There absolutely is something wrong with Facebook when they deliberately, methodically and efficiently manipulate the very people you say have something seriously wrong with them in order to make massive profits while negatively affecting millions of people around the globe.
That's like arguing that loan sharks aren't all that bad, it's actually the people with poor financial skills that are the real problem.
"In Netflix's case, the company also operates a Content Delivery Network which helps greatly improve streaming efficiency and overall load, the hardware for which is provided to ISPs around the world, for free."
So maybe Netflix should charge SK Broadband for this service. $22.9M seems like a reasonable fee.
"This may be a SLAPP suit but it's looking more and more like a pyrrhic one..."
Technically it'd need to be a victory to be considered Pyrrhic, and that doesn't look likely, legally or otherwise.
In the meantime he's throwing the family's employees under the bus. Throwing a tanty over a broad and indirect accusation could result in multiple deportations, something that probably barely registers in Nunes' conscience.
"You know the government is forcing people to disclose their vaccination status and have medical procedures done on them against their will right now, right?"
Neither of those things are actually happening but a majority of people agree with vaccination requirements so how about you quit whinging like a baby and participate constructively in society. Controlling contagious diseases is not something you can just opt out of because you're a selfish asshole.
Yes. Did you miss this? They dominate large swathes of world trade because everyone wanted to take advantage of their cheap labor and now we're all thoroughly addicted to it.
"gotten so advanced on the quiet?"
It was hardly quiet, it's been building up quite openly for decades.
"is the world afraid of what China might do if challenged?"
Of course they are. While China has a lot to lose as well, nobody really wants to rush into a situation that seriously damages their own economy by being cut off from Chinese markets and labor. Any serious challenge against China would require a fantastical level of world cooperation.

Jeebers, when there's a whole Wikipedia page listing the identified gangs within one police department, you know there's a serious problem.
I mean, I'm sure the the Compton Executioners and the Grim Reapers are just super nice guys and great cops...
