I copy from - in no particular order and to varying degrees - R. Crumb, Jack Davis, Ileana Grimm, M. K. Browne, Don Martin, Gahan Wilson, Gary Larson, Ed Roth and Rick Griffin for my enormously popular Art Humor Blog.
Without the tricks, techniques and attitude I've gotten from their work, I would not be the author of an enormously popular Art Humor Blog.
Did I mention that I am the author of an enormously popular Art Humor Blog?
"'..."I don't believe so," Feinstein said during an appearance on NBC's Meet the Press. "The president has very clearly said that he wants to continue to recieve the funding provided by the contractors who supply the equipment, software and bodies involved in this billion-dollar operation. So I think we would agree with him. I know a dominant majority of the - everybody, virtually, except two or three, on the Senate Intelligence Committee would agree with that." ... "A lot of the privacy people, perhaps, don't understand that we still need massive amounts of campaign funds going into this next election cycle", Feinstein said. "We need to be prepared. Television spots and Youtube ads are frickin' expensive!"'"
They still think that search engines are supposed to be designed to show users what the RIAA wants them to find, rather than what the searcher wants to find.
When I was a kid, this would be the equivalent of going around the city and changing all the Swap Meet signs (where they sold new albums for $3.99) to Record Store signs where they sold for $7.99
It would be interesting to see Mr. Hood's response to, "Why isn't the state of Mississippi 100% crime-free? You manage to catch some criminals, why can't you get all of them?"
Considering, you know, it's your job more than policing the internet is Google's.
Nevada has a "distracted driving" law now which forbids "Text messaging and related activities", which doesn't appear to apply to Las Vegas Metro police, who have laptops attached to the center piece of the dashboard.
It's not uncommon to see an officer using the computer at a stop light.
The major record labels usually siphon off most of this income, and then they dribble about 15-20% of what's left down to their artists. Indie labels are often a lot fairer – sometimes sharing the income 50/50.
As an artist, if you didn't associate yourself with a record label, would you get 100% of the payout from Spotify?
PS: Love your music, have bought many of your albums.
The Recording Industry* exists because of technology.
Ignoring copyright and ethical arguments, technology has now rendered the Recording Industry largely irrelevant.
It exists almost entirely on inertia, a huge Rube Goldberg machine of flailing desperation - buying laws, screeching propaganda, corrupting industries.
It's like some hideous parasite alternately sucking and battling its newly awakened host.
What's truly astounding about this is that a trade group which, at its peak, represented about 1000 artists has been able to unilaterally dictate, stifle and economically terrorize not just the country but most of the rest of the world.
The RIAA has stifled innovation, dictated what software, services and hardware people can use/own and sued or threatened to sue anyone who didn't obey.
