Theaters pay studios around 90% of their receipts for the first week (although this is negotiated by each theater chain. That is why the popcorn is so expensive - they are making a lot more money selling candy and popcorn than they are making showing the movie. If the theaters could get concerts, sporting events and other large venue events on their big screens they might come close to wanting to stay in business. Imagine a football game in 4k resolution on a giant screen!
I just remember what happened with the music and film industries saying that the cassette tapes, VCRs, CDs and then DVDs and so on would kill their business and then it turned out to be a huge money maker. How can the MPAA be so wrong so much of the time and have no major studio notice. Are they giving away yachts to studio execs?
when a lie will do as well. Seems to me that it is about time that the journalists start making up the news themselves since they cannot report on what is actually happening. In no time the legislature will let them in since they really wouldn't want ridiculous articles about how the legislature wants to sterilize people who make less than $150,000 (or whatever their salary is).
the solution is to charge a copyright birthing fee. when someone is born the parents are charged a lifetime copyright payment of let's say 4 million dollars. that entitles their child to download, copy whatever painting, photograph, music, video, movie or some other as yet undiscovered thing (like quantum tele-transporting the entire earth to another universe) for free.
Ah but Juries typically know nothing and when confronted with something so complicated as encryption technology or other complicated legal issues. They will decide the case based upon what the lawyers were wearing and possible how their lunch was. Read The Jury by Stephen J. Adler for more insight.
Yes there are some really bad cops in Miami but not all of them are crazy. I used to live there in my college years and knew a few cops. One was the most misbehaved child you could ever imagine and the other was a wonderful, helpful and caring person.
I do not know why police departments do not give everyone a MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory test) If properly read it would keep the departments from hiring those bad cops.
Wouldn't it be great if there were state standard training for the police. Here in CA the Highway Patrol is trained at one facility so everyone has the same set of tools. The general police do whatever they want to. Please correct me if I am wrong.
there is no contract no agreement until money changes hands. It they charged the customer then there is a contract and they not the customer are libel for not fulfilling the contract unless in there "terms of sale contract" they include some blatantly stupid comment that promptly shipped means within a year.
the Hollywood film model will go the same route that the music industry has - with people making movies at home or in their garage using Canon and Nikon digital cameras and Final Cut Pro.The tools to make movies are less expensive and it isn't too difficult to think of better plots than the ones we have been recycling for years. Movie theaters may become the analog to the cafe where local movie makers can show their movies for a charge to local audiences -- that is if the theaters have any brains...
